Default Sliced finger on Rem1000 action

Didn't learn the first time!

There are some really sharp edge inside Rem1100 receivers! Was cleaning mine tonight; blindly reached in with a patch and sliced my finger.
Trigger finger at that.

Dangit!

Like a broken record OP. We all have done it with an 1100, 11-87 or Winchester 1200. And it sucks.

Running a snake through the barrel once a while, is all the cleaning needed.

LOL. You must only run a pump. Try running 1000s of rounds through a gas operated shotgun without cleaning the pistons, rings and magtube with the 1100 or equivalent.

Cut mine on an 870 barrel. Pretty good slice.
Went to ER to close the cut.
While I was there a nurse came by to check and asked how I cut myself. Said I was cleaning a shotgun barrel. Without hesitating he said "An 870?".
Cracked me up. Forgot about my finger for moment.

I have an 870 that I haven't cleaned in 25 years. I pick it up and shoot it every so often. I just check the barrel to make sure no spiders have any families living inside.

Seems to me those sharp edges are a result of short sightedness or cost cutting by Remington. I'd bet money the edges could be smoothed without affecting the gun's performance.

Interesting. Had not thought of that. The barrel fits flush - sliced my finger like a razor.

I'm so confused. Looking to buy a new shotgun for clays. Should I avoid the Rem 1100? Is it true that I must spend $1500+ for a shotgun that won't hurt me?

Nothing wrong with a 870 or 1100 or 11-87.

In the olden-days these guns had or were supposed to have all the sharp edges dehorned. Pay a good gunsmith to dehorn your shotgun and all will be well. That is for sliced finger(s) I mean.

Being in several Tactical Shotgun class. Its always the Remington 870 eating people's finger, pinching them or cutting them.

Instead of gore photo of slicer fingers, here's something to laugh at instead

Worst I ever did with a shotgun was taking more or less the entire tip of my thumb off on the extractor of a Super 90... I'm sure professionals would call it superficial and what not, but I swear it seemed like the entire tip was gone and it took a few years before it stopped feeling like one giant callus.

The sharp edges in 1100 and 11-87 receivers are worn in from the action of the gun not a failure to dehorn anything. The older guns will cut you faster as they have sharper edges.

Also, how the hell does anyone cut their finger on an 870 barrel. Been working on these guns for 38 years. I go to the factory every third year to recertify and the subject of any sharp edges on an 870 barrel has never come up and I have never cut myself on one or met anyone who has. The issues with the semi-autos is covered very well in the 11-87P certification but nothing on the 870 barrel. Why is that? Because there is nothing on the 870 that can cut you.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

The barrel was removed for cleaning. Pushing a cleaning rod with patch-it got stuck-I pushed harder-it got loose and...my finger was pushed against the sharp end of the barrel.
Will never do that again. Pretty nasty cut. Nice and clean.

Shotguns are not for the untrained or faint-hearted.

About 99% of sliced digits that I've seen were on the shooters reloading thumb and were injured as a result of either practicing a reload or a live fire reload. Either case, injured finger or no, it didn't stop the training. Since I didn't hear or see anything to the contrary, those with sliced fingers due to shotgun handling of any kind or severity lived to tell about.

Where did you hear this BS? No.. any adult girl can shoot a semi.

Maybe depends on what is "hurt". My nephew said my voice hurts his ear!

Nope, A300 would make a trick for far less than 1500

Maybe because it's a an aluminum receiver instead of the Remington's steel receivers...

but I've never even come close to cutting anything cleaning a few Mossberg 500s, more than a few times.

Maybe my skin is stronger than aluminum.
