Default Caliber restrictions

One thing i've noticed is there is no information or at least if there is the information is hard to find about what calibers are allowed on what ranges.

Keep in mind it's a cartridge limitation not a caliber or diameter limitation.
for example Just because the range says .30 caliber and smaller well that's a Military .30 caliber, you can't roll out there with a .300 Weatherby mag.
.30 cal is .7.62x51mm Nato or the civilian equivalent

So from my first hand knowledge and a bit of help and explanation from Mr David Ellis

Pistol range 102
22lr, 9mm and 45 ACP in an appropriate pistol for the match. i.e. service pistols (1911's M9's)

Rifle range 103
.308/7.62 cartridge and smaller,
i.e 30-06 and .300 win mag is not allowed

Rifle Range 116 NSW range
.300 Win mag and smaller

Sniper range 117A
.300 Win mag and smaller

And on the wish list is
Sniper range 108
50 BMG and smaller

Due to caliber waivers needing to be approved and in place please check with your match director to insure your non listed cartridge is authorized for use. Range inspectors can check every rifle and cartridge on the firing line and they are not typically very forgiving

The reason behind posting this is due to a problem I had with an EIC match on 103,
I was under the assumption that my M1 garand was an acceptable military rifle. Well only if it was in .308. Mine is an original .30-06 and due to the USMC's zones of safe impact it cannot be used on range 103 and it's also why the SMGC holds the Garand/Springfield/military matches on range 116 where those calibers are allowed.

So just passing along a bit of details that may be missed by a new shooter.

You're kidding right? No 30-06 at 103? The gsm matches only allow 30-06 garands.

It's been about 3 years since I've shot with SMGC, but every match I shot was on 103 with my .30-06. Green weenie must have changed something. Damn
WTB M2 Ball .30-06

GSM is shot on range 116A

Wilcox 103 regs

Range 116 regs

Note the wilcox regs state 7.62 and under the 116 regs state 7.62 and under but include 300 win mag so 30-06 would be allowed as well.

I'm simply posting what I was told by David Ellis SMGC board member. I wanted to shoot a service rifle match and was told a 30-06 M1 was a no go.

The last GSM match shot on 103 was in February 2016. I can not elaborate on the why, as I do not know, all I can say is what was communicated to me.

Keep in mind guys that are pushing hard for our Caliber waivers so thing may change. It's ticking a lot of people off especially with upcoming NRA regionals that you'll only be allowed .223 or .308 (5.56mm, 7.62mm)
