Oh well... Perhaps one day, Accuracy Systems or Accuracy Speaks or another gunsmith will make aftermarket supplies such as barrels, sights, compensators, etc.

There are no plans for any longer barrels at this time. All three versions of the SU-16 are now shipping. However, some of the accessories that were displayed at the Shot Show will not be available for approx. 2-3 months. Have a great day! www.Kel-Tec.com

I called Kel-Tec and inquired about the possibility of changing barrels. Evidently it's something that isn't really possible. The manner in which the barrel is attached to the receiver often leaves the receiver damaged when one tries to remove the barrel (this happening with Kel-Tec's own techs).

Just as I suspected.

In the event a barrel were to wear out Kel-Tec would simply issue you a new gun. So, for now we're stuck with either the A or B barrels. My guess is that the B version may be a little more accurate due to its shorter length, increased rigidity (and correspondingly less harmonics). Some Mini-14 enthusiasts have success in increasing accuracy by cutting their barrels back to 16 inches..

The barrels can be changed according to the link I posted from ktog.org. You have to heat the base of the barrel as it's loctited down to a threaded barrel extension. Also the B model has a not so great pencil barrel. This particular SU16 hasn't been finished though. Time will tell. |

Some good news. If you go over to ktog.org there is a guy already converting his SU16 to 6.8x43mm with the addition of a new barrel. He goes over some of the parts with pics. Really interesting stuff. There is hope that some of us would be able to do this with a .223 barrel and compensator of choice.
