Default Current knife and forge project. Edit She Lives!!!! .....I think..

Well, I finally to give something I loved and always wanted to do a chance, since I've been unable to stay with archery since my last shoulder surgery. Been working on a stick removal blade while building a propane forge.

All I have left to do with the forge is weld the legs, drill the holes for the burner jets, and line the inside with ceramic wool, and kastolite.

As an added note, if anyone has or knows someone with an anvil, old wrenches, dull files, or railroad track/ties they want to part with please let me know.

For old files you may want to contact a local farrier. They only use their farrier rasps, files, once. In order to not spread hoof sickness. Most are high carbon steel,American made. I had lots that I gave away before I moved to Wisconsin.
And I got them for free. Good luck.

I like it! I see you're using the Gough Blade Grinding Jig! I need to build me one of those soon. How do you like it?

For hand filing I like it, the only problem I'm having is I think there is a slight warp on one of the boards causing the line to be uneven at the very beginning. Also instead of drilling holes every inch, I think I would do it maybe every .750. It was cheap and easy to make.

I know if the video/tutorial he does for the jig, he talks about how it's intended for Flat or Scandi grinds. My personal favorite grind is a Saber Grind, which is like a Scandi, but has a secondary bevel. I was thinking I could still use the jig and then grinds the secondary bevel with course stones. Can you provide any comment/insight on this?

I looked at the custom made ones companies sell online and made 2 of my own design. Only needed one for my forge as they put out more heat than I need.

While I'm pretty amateur, I would think maybe using a longer I bolt you could raise the angle for the secondary edge. I really had trouble with the wood having a little warp or something I guess and it was making the plunge line difficult. Went back to my 1 x 30 lol.

It started and ran, but I didn't get the chance to heat up any metal yet. Got too late.

With the heating elements installed, it looks like some kind of Martian death-ray turret... I dig it.
