If we can show enough of them the other aspects of firearm ownership, like target matches, camaraderie, bonding with their children over a shared hobby, building an AR like a proverbial Erector Set, etc., then just maybe they will stop and question the entire anti-2A stance of their elected representatives. This generation of elected officials is probably a lost cause. But if we can get more dems like me in to shooting, maybe the next generation of politicians would be more level headed when it comes to the issue of firearms and gun control.

1. First, it isn't just a hobby; it is also a right clearly articulated in the constitution that doesn't say anything about target shooting or hunting. Obama, for example is horrible on 2A issues, yet many "pro-2A" dems seem to agree that his "common sense" gun control is reasonable and potentially good. If dems want to call themselves pro-2A, that's great, but don't go applauding these politicians for "common sense" laws. How about no more laws that lead to more and more encroachments on our RKBA. Then, I hear a bunch of nonsense from "pro-2A" dems saying that Obama says he wants and AWB, but doesn't really mean it because he knows it won't get through congress. How about dropping this fantasy and calling him on his BS? Or, if you truly believe it that he doesn't want it, then call him out on his dishonest rhetoric.
2. What motivates CA politicians? Is it really the voices of their constituents??? Probably, to a very small degree. However, to a much larger degree it is $$$$. If you go to the roots of some of the largest Democrat funding in CA, you will see the biggest flow of cash from the CTA and the SEIU, which are decidedly anti-2A.
CTA stirred controversy that its pension fund had holdings of Cerberus, which held the Freedom Group.

The SEIU has taken a strong anti-2A positions.

Perhaps, you need to understand who the voices with the real influence on the "CA Democratic Party" are. Some CA Democrats need to evaluate the backers of their party. Local governments can differ greatly from the national scene. The folks in Sacramento can call themselves whatever they'd like in terms of political affiliation, but they are merely a cartel of crony thugs that band together to line the pockets of the anointed.
