I have all the equipment (I think). Looking to learn a few more tricks here and there. If there is a class I will most likely be bring 3 or 4 more people with me. Our Dillon 550 was a group investment and would love to learn more!

I have been reloading for about 25 years . I could be up for teaching if the class size is small , say 5-6 maybe larger classes after we see how it goes. I dont have a facility for it . I could do a class of 2 in my reloading room (its overcrowded). I load handgun on a dillion 550 and my rifle and wildcats on a turret press , the class would be on a single stage or turret as I think everyone should start on one . also every one should have at least read through the mechanics of reloading .

it seems as though one of the challenges we could have is a facility.

Can we start giving that some thought?

Anyone know of a warehouse, a building, lodge, or other place we could use?

I expect that this will probably have a lot of interest...it sounds like at least a couple of people would be willing to teach.

I have an excursion - so I am happy to help in getting equipment picked up along with anything else needed...

Cheers!

I would mostly like to learn some pointers, I have been reloading for a year or so, but have only ever reloaded 223. I would be interested in pistol mainly, I do have equipment if it is needed to demonstrate. Weekends would be an opportune time to schedule. And defiantly a way for us cal gunners to get together.

I am interested in learning. I purchased equipment but have yet to load one round due to primer shortages. I am told my order will ship late Oct. I will keep my fingers crossed. I reloaded shot shells for years but not metallic.

my friend and I have talked about splitting the cost on a start up kit from midway usa. I've loaded shotgun shells for my uncle about 20 years ago but dont remember a thing. So im a rookie hoping to learn.
my vote is for sundays and if i can get my garage cleaned out soon it is possible for a smaller location.

my brother and myself are interested in learning, we have 90% of the equipment needed, both read most of the book and have the basic knowledge of reloading just have not set-up and started yet, we both wanted to attend a class to see it all in action...will keep my eyes open for a location..22popnsplat is a real nice guy so it should be a good time....We have the Lee Classic Cast Press that has not been mounted we could bring if needed.

I am interested in learning. I understand the basics from youtube videos, but would like a little more insight before I begin.

I will most likely be purchasing a press in 2-3 weeks.

Just got used RCBS rock chucker master kits, already read the speer reloading book, it would be better to get a little bit instruction and watch the demo for 9mm, 45acp and 223 Remington.

Anyone want to recommend some good information resources for the folks that haven't started yet? The loading manuals themselves, of course, should be required reading if you're sure you're taking the plunge (the instructional part of Lyman 48 is my fave), or the ABCs of Reloading, but since our goal for this thing seems to be a "kinder, gentler" introduction, what's out there that isn't $30 and 300 pages of fairly non-recreational reading?

Handloader magazine, for instance, included a 10 page "Guide to Reloading Ammunition" supplement a couple issues ago. Should've called it "Guide to HANDloading Ammunition" since step 1 was "Open your bag of new brass" -- completely skipped all the fun parts of case prep like sorting, inspecting, tumbling and decapping -- but otherwise it was a nice little intro. It wasn't explicitly branded as such, but all the gear in the pics was Redding. I looked on Redding's site hoping for a PDF, but no dice.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

What is the format for this class gonna look like? Is it 30 people in a room with mostly lecture, or 5 or 6 people with more hands on? The reason I ask is a may be able to help out with a location just need to understand what the class will look like and how long will it run.

Just wanted to let you all know I've been contacting the reloading equipment companies to see if we can get some materials or assistance from them. So far, here's what I know:

Midway is out of catalogs until after the first of the year (went through their full year's stock in 9 months... apparently we aren't the only ones taking a renewed interest.)

Redding Reloading is going to send us some catalogs and a reloading DVD (ok, at the moment, just one, but we'll share...)

still working on contacting the right folks at Dillon, Lee, Sinclair, RCBS, Huntington.

Megan

I would be interested in attending training on a Dillon press. Is anyone out there a point person we can e-mail to coordinate the training? I would be willing to try to match trainers with trainees for Orange County.

Very interested if there is room, or if there will be a second class - I would love to learn from someone who knows before I go out and buy equipment.

I am also very interested in learning if there is room. My bro-in-law has a 550 but hasn't been able to teach me since he joined the Army and is away training. I might be able to bring it if need be.

I'm interested. I've been reloading .223 on a rockchucker for about 3 months. I was just given an dillon 550b, so i'd like to know a bit more about progressive.

I've got that RCBS training DVD and a projection system if that would help.

I'm in the north riverside almost fontana area. Near Brite Spot.

Default It's HERE!

Prospective Reloading OC/IE (and any other) Calgunners: With many thanks to Gregg at OnTarget Range and TJ Johnston of AllSafe Defense Systems, we present: The Orange County/Inland Empire Reloading Clinic!

The instructor is TJ Johnston: among many other qualifications, he is a Master Instructor for the NRA Reloading course. The clinic he's designed for us is not a cut-down NRA course, but a new program focused on straight-wall pistol cartridges, and includes hands-on experience reloading 9MM on a single stage and a turret press. There will be a progressive press on hand for discussion and inspection. After making your rounds, you get to see how they perform by firing them on the range!

The course is at CalGuns sponsor OnTarget Range in Laguna Niguel on Wednesday November 18, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. To fit our group in the classroom and provide enough time and instructor attention for everyone, class size is limited to 12 people, but if interest is high enough there may be a repeat date in early 2010. The fee for the clinic is $75. If you were about to hit the Reply button and type "But the _____ region's clinic is only $20!" please read this first:
  • This is 3 hours of professional training, and normally goes for upwards of $100 when it is available at all – not including the hands-on portion, the components for the ammunition you will make (approx. 30 rds./person), or the range time.
  • OnTarget is donating their classroom and range for this project. The only things we have to cover are the brass, bullets, powder, and primers used in the course – at cost from the range's bulk reloading supplier. (We should all be so lucky to be able to get a deal like this for our own components!)
  • TJ from AllSafe is also discounting his normal fee for teaching, plus creating a custom course to fit our format.

  • ALL of the remaining proceeds go to the CalGuns Foundation to support the excellent work they do for us and everyone else in the state. The portion of each attendee's admission after actual costs is tax-deductible as a donation to a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, and you will get a receipt with the breakout.

Call OnTarget directly to sign up: (949) 348-0352, or visit the range at 27692 Camino Capistrano, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677. First 12 paid sign-ups are in the class. Credit cards are accepted.

Once you're in, you'll want to bring/do the following:
  • Show up early. Get directions, get dinner, and be in the classroom ready to learn at 7:00 sharp – this course has lots of information, and we want everyone to get the full value from it.
  • Bring ID if you wish to shoot on the range.
  • Bring safety glasses to wear while working on the press, and hearing and eye protection for use on the range. (OnTarget will let us use theirs, but as shooters we've all got 'em, so why not bring the ones you're comfortable with?)
  • Bring a firearm designed for 9x19 (9MM Luger) ammunition. The range will have their rental guns available (rental included in the price), but it's always more fun to shoot your own!
  • Bring a great attitude, respect for your fellow participants, and a huge THANK YOU for Gregg and TJ for their help in making this possible!

If you haven't been to OnTarget, check out the facility at http://www.ontargetrange.com. Also visit AllSafe to check out TJ's credentials and his other course offerings: http://www.allsafedefense.com. We look forward to seeing you there!

++++

If you don't feel comfortable participating at this level (we all know times are tight, the holidays are coming, and you're saving for your own press...), keep an eye on the thread and we will post more details in the event a lower-cost introductory opportunity presents itself. Or better yet, post what you will do to help to create an option that meets your needs and budget. The course above is a great course and a great value, so it'll fill up - and hopefully become a regular offering. The CalGuns world could always use more well-trained reloaders, though, and there's no monopoly on teaching!
