25y Rifle Irons on Bench - 128

Nearly a perfect target (actually it is except for bonus points). Feed that CZ some Wolf MT or SK Std+ and I predict a perfect target. Really nice, solid shooting. Wish my CZ would shoot Blazer that well (or maybe its me).

Yeah, no kidding on the heart beat. The reticle bounces all over the place.
A bag of rice...I never thought of that. I do need something.

Thanks! I was surprised by the Blazer too. It's all I had that day and now I know what it's capable of. I just got some Wolf ME and I'm looking forward to seeing how it does. Plus, it's time to stretch out to 50y.
I'd like to take all the credit but the CZ is just so damn good!

I know what you mean about the CZ. It almost shoots by itself. With my set up, front rest and rear bag the sights are still centered on the target after I take a shot so that in itself leads to better accuracy since I don't have to move the rifle around after each shot, just nudge it a little here and there on occasion. Same with my Kimber, rock solid on the bench. Now offhand, forget it, I'm not up to that.

I need a front & rear bag setup, the Caldwell cheapo sled isn't doing it for me. Its too hard to get a good position and the rifle jumps all over the place unless you are laying on it. I started using my hand as a cheek rest and pushing down on the stock to keep it in place but the sight moves up & down if the pressure isn't constant.

I'm going to need all the help I can get, it looks like this match is starting to get competitive.

This is what I use. http://www.amazon.com/Caldwell-44090...ldwell+rock+br
Elevation and windage adjustments that lock tight and the front bag has adjustments to hold the front of the stock firmly. Has worked well for me. Some folks pay upwards of $1000 or more for a front rest so this is pretty good for the $$$. Hope I'm not giving away too many secrets.

I went to "THE GUN RANGE" last night to shoot what I was hoping to be my final Rimfire Targets. I took my newly restored 1944 Mossberg S42M Military training rifle with new OM 22 rear aperture sights and a Lyman front globe. This rifle shot so well I was amazed. My 25 yard iron sight target is the first time that I have used this gun with the irons. LOVE IT, and it looks really nice. I also took another shot at Lazyme's 25 yard bench rest pistol score of a 106. The best I could squeeze out was 2 104's, he may have beat me this month, MAYBE ???

I believe that was the one I shot a few months ago before all the mods he did. Shoots really nice. Would like to put more than 5 round thru it.

Thanks guys, it's amazing what a little sanding, staining, painting and some lacquer will do to an old gun, the stock had so much old oil and crud that I could scrape it off with a finger nail and the barrel had some rust pitting on the outside only, but the rifling was bright and shinny . The new peep sights are an awesome addition. I will use this gun for a long time. Thanks. Hey Tim, great job on the 25 yard pistol this month.

I think that Mossy is about all used up. Better send it to me for disposal. Very nice rifle and appears to be a great shooter.

Thanks Izzy. It was cool to be able to use this old gun in the match and it shot very well. I will have to test some ammo to see what it likes but I think I have a great gun to learn with.

That's good shootin with that ammo. Try some standard velocity or subsonic ammo and the score will most likely improve. Eliminates that sonic wave wobble that High Velocity ammo has when it slows down below the speed of sound at around 45 yds. My favorite .22lr ammo for 100yds is Lapua Center-X, kinda pricey but I don't shoot much of it and can be hard to find locally. I always have to order it online.

Is that the one you got for $80, or is that the Mossberg you got with the scope?

first time for me to join in the fun. gotta say, it's fun. my 11 y/o son joined me.

all targets shot with a 10/22: hogue overmolded stock, tech sights, sporter barrel, stock trigger. shot on bench, with a soft rest.

A Place to Shoot, just north of Santa Clarita (north of los angeles)

First scoring target - 109

Pretty happy with this

Second scoring target - 117 + 4 (pair of touching shots) = 121

forgot to add in the bonus. sorry. can't believe I shot this with Rem Yellowjacket ammo.

My son would kill me if I didn't post his score

93 with a +2 bonus for 95

he's pretty good. gonna be outshooting me soon!!

Great to see the younger shooters participate. Let him know his score is being recorded (as "rm1911jr) and also a Welcome to the match for him. Next month's targets will be up late today or early tomorrow.

I got a chance to sneak in one more target for March. 124
I went to South Bay Rod and Gun, beautiful day around 71 deg. and slight breeze coming in from my 6.
JC Higgins with stock peep sights (Thanks Geedog!). I had no idea how much I would improve every time I shoot with these things. They sure are fun!
Still not going to give a few of you a run but I'm not complaining.

I shot the two lower targets first and saw I was low. I still need to find my sight picture but the un-hooded front post is hard to keep crisp. I did get a front hood (THANKS GeeDog!) I plan to install soon.
HAPPY EASTER Ya'll

Thanks Steve, I was surprised to find the range was open today so I took advantage, wide open choice of lanes. I even got pulled into shooting one target during a apple seed event that was going on. I have not shot in the pron position since basic Training 1974. "OUCH" my aching back.

No kids and the wife was glued to the TV watching hockey. We are huge hockey fans. I was home in plenty of time to make her a nice Easter dinner though.

Default April Rimfire Match 2013

We will continue to award PRIZES (T-Shirts) for the best scores on three targets. I will continue to track scores for the overall best shooter for the year: For information on this process see the first post of the February 2013 Rimfire Match. There were 13 shooters this month, the largest turnout to date. Let your friends and family know about the match and continue to grow the number of shooters.

PLEASE BE SURE TO MARK YOUR TARGETS WITH: Distance shot, Which target (irons, scope, bench, pistol, rifle) and score. Write BIG so us Coordinators with old eyes can read it. Thanks!!!!

April Targets!!

Download the targets and print on 8.5 x11 inches paper. Shoot and score your target, take a picture of the target or scan it (your choice) and upload to this thread. Most folks use a web site such as “Flickr.com” and then link to the picture of the target.

25 Yard Irons: See attachment below. .
Take 3 shots at each target for a total of 12 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target.

50 Yard Irons: See attachments below. There are 3 targets to choose from. All are the same except the 3 rings in the center are different colors. Take 5 shots on each target for a total of 10 shots. Score your target as indicated on the target. This will be a PRIZE TARGET

100 Yard Irons: See attachment below. There are 2 targets to choose from. Both are the same except the 3 rings in the center are different colors. The idea is to give a better sight picture to iron sight and pistol shooters. Take 5 shots on the target. Score your target as indicated on the target.

50 Yard Scoped: See attachment below. This is a Terrorist target. Take one shot at each Terrorist. If you miss and hit the hostage subtract the appropriate score from your overall score. (Hint, its not always advised to go for the Head Shot). This has been one of the most difficult targets for these matches. This will be a PRIZE TARGET

100 Yard Scoped: See Attachment. . Take 5 shots at the center bullseye. Take one shot at each of the small bullseyes but only the center 10 will count. If you miss the 10, no score.

15 yard Pistol Target, Iron Sights or Red Dot. No Magnified Optics.
Use the 50 yd Iron Sight Target: See Attachment
Take 10 shots at the target (5 shots at each bullseye) . Score your target as indicated on the target. Target may be shot off hand or from a bench rest. Off hand shooters will compete separately from bench rest shooters. The Bench Rest 15yd Target will be a PRIZE TARGET.

25 yard Pistol Target, Open Class. Use any optics you want.
Use the 100 yd Iron Sight Target: See Attachment
Take 10 shots at the target. Score your target as indicated on the target. Target may be shot off hand or from a bench rest. Off hand shooters will compete separately from bench rest shooters.

Additional targets are in the second post.

For each target indicate your total score and if not already indicated on the target note the distance shot and what type of sights. Ex: Score =xxx, Iron Sights, Scope, Red Dot. No fair shooting iron sight targets with a scope for score. You may also indicate what rifle and ammo was used.

Rules:

This is an online match. Print off the targets, shoot where and when you want. Come back and post your targets for those in your face bragging rights!! I do encourage meeting up with other match shooters. Any rimfire firearm is eligible. Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against a tree is acceptable. Using a rest in which the Rifle/Pistol can be locked down is verboten. There is no limit to the number of targets that can be shot, post the best or post them all.

Bonus Points

Here is how it will work. This is only on targets that have multiple shots on one target. We shoot the targets as normal and add up the scores like normal. The twist is we shoot for groups as well. For example, if we are shooting 5 shots on each target. If none of the 5 bullet holes are touching you get no bonus points. If two are touching you get 2 bonus points. If three are touching you get 3 bonus points on up to a maximum of 5 bonus points for each target. You only get bonus points for one group of touching holes.

Finally for any questions just drop me a PM and I'll get right back to you. Feel free to also PM me with feedback/complaints/suggestions/ or errors I make, etc... These matches are based on “Gentlemen's/Ladie's Honor” so go shoot and have fun.

IZZY! Thank you again and again.
The 50 yd scoped target is also my favorite, I've been hoping to see this one again. Just for fun I'm going to try it at 25 irons too.

I use it to decompress after a fun day at work. Keep the bubble baths & aroma therapy candles...give me my rifle/pistol and a monthly rimfire target and I'm good to go.
