I currently have three 22 rifles that see a lot of action (plus a full-on Volquartsen stainless heavy-barrel target rifle), an older pre-warning Ruger 10-22 Deluxe Sporter, a 60s era Belgium Browning SA22 bottom-eject (girls with large breasts don't like hot casings dropping into their shirts!) and a mint Remington Nylon 66---my favorite teaching gun---anybody learning to shoot with me must spend an afternoon with the Nylon 66 before we start with their gun...

FWIW, I recall an article about the decision to discontinue it and it seemed to be the same old story - the tooling was wearing out and declining sales couldn't justify re-tooling.

Maybe if they take away 10/22 and the like as "assault weapons" the old '66 may come back. Great rifle, especially the versions that are butt stock fed, had several of those, and several clip mag fed versions all those were jamomatics. Also they don't like hollow points with a flat type nose on the bullet.

Ruger's bean counters won't be building the Marlin 22. There is no way they could cheapen it's manufacturing costs to make it an entry level gun for someone to start with and them step up to a 10-22. On the other hand they would never try and make it upscale.
