The shells can be top loaded with the spring and bolt carrier group removed from a fixed magazine vepr 12 I have seen it done on one but of course you should check yours out before you permanently affix your magazine

If I should start a new thread I can...
What about a magazine release where the protruding end has been cut off? Never had a bullet button.

Can you release the magazine without disassembling the action?

I say remove the gas piston, plug the gas block, make any and all contributions you can to the NRA and hope we can get this over turned. If we're successful, then you can easily fix what the state has forced you to break. I wasn't aware of these new "laws" on semi-auto shotguns but this really pissed me off. I was thinking of bringing my converted saiga 12 out to play next weekend and decided to see if there were any new "laws" for semi auto mag fed shot guns and I stumble upon this discussion. DAMN IT!

Why do my instincts tell me that this over-reaching "regulation" will not hold up in court? The legislature had the opportunity to include magazine fed shotguns in SB880 and didn't. They should have to make a new law or amend the current law to include shotguns.
D.A. "Your honor, the defendant is in violation of Penal Code 30515" Judge "Does the weapon in question meet the definition of an assault weapon in Penal Code 30515?" D.A. "Well, no, but the DOJ says it should be included, so that's why we think the defendant broke the law" Remember, this is the same DOJ that got itself into hot water over making legal determinations (which is the responsibility of the 58 D.A.'s in California, not DOJ) so I can't see how a D.A. would rely on their regulations to prosecute a case if said regulations weren't enumerated in the penal code. Does the assault weapons P.C. grant DOJ carte blanche power to make changes? I'm not seeing it.

Bugsy I just stumbled upon this thread. Where you ever able to make the wings? For the mag to make it top removeable?
I’ve been following the maglatch guys and thought that was what the were machining out. But they just released a plug for gas system today for preorder instead. |

No but the magazine can be top loaded with two and a half inch shells because it is set up to accept 3-inch shells the downside is you have to remove the bolt and spring and once you try to reassemble the action with a loaded mag it strips off a round and Chambers the round before you can get the spring and safety reinstalled making for a very unsafe situation thanks to California safe gun laws

I made a new longer piston for my vepr 12 that makes it manual feed. I posted in the semi auto rifle section, sorry

can you explain how that's legal? i thought semi shotguns with detachable mags are assault weapons unless theyre registered with a bullet button, fixed mag or bolt/manual action? if youre registered it, i thought you can still keep the grip, fixed stock and it still needed a bullet button. There is no such thing as a featureless shotgun with a detachable mag, since a detachable mag IS an evil feature for shotguns. What works for rifles, doesn't work for shotguns. |

To clarify you can have a pump action shotgun with a detachable mag or a straight pull bolt action with a detachable mag but never a semi-auto with a detachable mag.
The detachable mag is considered a feature that makes the semi auto shotgun become an assault weapon, so in order for it to be a featureless semi-auto shotgun it would have to have a fixed magazine under the current standards for fixed magazines i e the action would need to be disassembled in order to remove the magazine

Keep in mind you have 10 business days left to submit an assault weapons registration application. While your application is being processed, there is no exemption that allows you to continue to possess it after 06-30-2018. So, if your application is still being processed after 07-01-2018, it is prudent to disassemble the firearm into parts and store the parts in seperate containers/locations. After your application is approved (you will receive CA DOJ paperwork in the mail), then you can reassemble the firearm into a semi-auto shotgun with a "bullet button" style magazine lock. As a registered assault weapon, the "bullet button" style magazine lock can not be removed/replaced (unless it's for repair or deregistration).

So I ve been away from calguns.. I was thinking of selling my saiga 12 Bc I really just don’t use it and I need the $$.
To sell my Saiga 12 I need to either: A) block the piston B) register by 7-1-18 C) permanently attach the mag. I prefer not to do option C. What do you guys think would be the best option if I plan to sell? Thanks |

I just thought of a solution to the Vepr 12. I know the Vepr 12 has a last round hold open. If we just add a spring to the last round hold open latch so it keeps the bolt open after every shot its technically not a semi-auto?
Before posting I looked up other discussion regarding this. And "Quiet" called it broken semi-auto and is a no go =( Freaken CA makes things difficult. |
