Question DROS delay

Is this usually a one time deal? 22 years buying never an issue. Just
wondering how often this happens. Nothing in my past, can't believe my
name would mix with someone else, either. Stop sign violation in 2003
last speeding ticket 1974.

Delays happen all the time, now; normally for no reason at all.

Delay for 30 days to an Undetermined status normally has an underlying reason and will occur over and over.

Did you move recently and provide the form with different address?

I always see this question posed in this type of thread. DOJ does not cross-reference your address with anything. An incorrect address will not cause a DROS delay/denial.

Do you have a common name?
That has happened here.

Good luck.

I've been at same address here 22 years. Name is not common, either.
Waiting 30 days is pretty unreasonable. Dealer is good about it.

I'm sure you'll get a status "proceed" from DOJ before your 30 days is up if you've never had issues before. Seems as though this is happening at a much higher rate of incidence lately...and it would not surprise me if they are randomly placing a certain percentage of DROS submissions under further review to comply with department policy quotas.

I can. You are dealing with people who can't be employed outside the government.

Was it a PPT? . . . if so, could be a problem with the gun (stolen?).

Delays can be for reasons that have nothing to do with the buyer.

I hope you are using an FFL that will release if undetermined.

I had a delay a few years ago....ended up being about 5 extra days. I had signed up for some classes at Aegis maybe 3 weeks before i bought the gun, and Aegis had run a background check. I always wondered if the background check caused the delay, as in maybe they thought I was trying to buy two guns in a 30 day period.
Probably not, but i wondered about it and I had never been delayed prior.

Dealer is well established, assured from start gun is not stolen. Also, says
will release after 30 days if undetermined and start DROS on another gun I'm trying to purchase.

Very good!

I had a PPT DROS delayed years ago (for over 100 days) because the SN turned up on a stolen weapon report. Turned out that the deputy who took the report wrote SN down wrong, and it just happened to match the SN of the gun I was buying (not stolen).

They didn't have "undetermined" after 30 days then, so it dragged out until they figured it out.

This is why I only use FFL's that release if undetermined now; just in case something similar happened again. It's not always a "buyer" problem that causes delays.

You should be good to go because you have an FFL that will release on an undetermined status (which is rare - thank your FFL for that, most won't release).

I went undetermined on a used pistol last year. FFL wouldn't release. Somebody else tried to buy that same gun later and went undetermined as well.
Turns out something was fishy with the gun - had previously been reported stolen or some such other nonsense.

The problem is that the FFL is left holding the bag. They have to hold used guns for 30 days while they are checked for being stolen, the gun is cleared and then comes up dirty later on.

The DOJ needs to be gutted - they are less than useless.
