Default Bipod on A1 Handguard?

Hey guys,

Looking at getting a bipod for my m16A1 clone and was just wondering if any of you knew if mounting it is the same as mounting it with A2 hand guards? I'm assuming it is where you line it up under the hand guards but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks!

If you have a railed handguard or even a Magpul handguard it is easy to add a picatinny rail adapter for the bipod.

It is possible to add a section of rail to the bottom of a regular A2 handguard for the same purpose, but I don't know how stable or secure it would be.

The slots are different in an A1 handguard, so something made for an A2 probably wold not work. Somebody used to make a mount that clamped on the barrel and stuck down the holes. Why a bipod on a A1 clone?

The A1 Triangle handguard is split vertically while the A2 handguard is split horizontally. You cannot use the holes in the A1 handguard.

Back in the 1980s, there were a few bipod mounts that clamped onto the barrel between the two front sight gas-block bands. The original USGI bipod just clipped onto the barrel.

That part looks ideal for what the OP is trying to do.
