Default AR/LR308 pistol barrel options

Anyone have any leads on options for AR/LR 308 pistol barrels? The only off the shelf option I found was by vytamenc (linked below). The custom option is by x-caliber for 300$ and 2-3months lead time w/ a free muzzle brake. What other options do i have? I want to keep it between 9.0-10.5" length.

Ideally, I wanted to stay under 300$ for a pencil barrel from a reputable barrel maker using namebrand blanks. Does this exist or is it because the 308 pistol platform is stupid/impractical?

Thanks for the KAK link, I saw their melonite offering but did not see the 416 Stainless. I think unless someone comes in with a deal I haven't seen before I'm going to cry once and buy once and go with a custom barrel. I don't think I get much value out of the noveske unfortunately lol

I've got the 10.5" KAK barrel that was 150 bucks when I bought it. Works great, hella fun, very loud, completely pointless.

308 out of that short of a barrel is really no better than x39...not to say you shouldn't do it, because you should. But it's just a noise maker at that point.

I went with a KAK 12.5" barrel. I think POF was another option, but I didn't see the point in spending $$$ for what's essentially just a range toy.

making a barrel shorter is easier, I've never had much luck making on long unless i started with a new blank

Why don't you get a cheep barrel and get it cut down? would be a simple operation for a smith to cut it off recrown, thread it for a brake and drill a new gas port.

I think you're missing the point and reading into something that's not there. There is nothing wrong with shortening a barrel and recrowning, there is everything wrong with the average "gunsmith" locally available to me in the bay area. If something is wrong with an off-the-shelf unmodified barrel, I can simply work it out. If I buy a barrel, have work done to it, I'm in the middle of a ****storm between who's fault it is.

Does USPS still serve the bay area?
If so, you can mail your cheap longer barrel to that guy in Van Nuys who wll shorten/thread it correctly.

I might, I bought from this guy before and will probably buy both variants that he has since its dirt cheap. If 12.5" is bigger than I like with the gun assembled, I'll be in touch soon.
