Not to hijack a pic thread, but I'm seeing a lot of the VLTOR bipods. How do you guys like these? I think they look the best out of available, but how do they function compared to a Harris?

I ran a VLTOR side mounted bipod for a while, but have since switched to a Harris. The VLTOR was good for shooting from a bench, but lacked the tilt feature of the Harris so shooting from the ground was kind of a pain. Either find a perfectly level surface to shoot from, or dig out material from under one of the bipod legs until it levels out. The regular bottom mounted VLTOR bipods do have the ability to tilt and pan from side to side though, so they are probably a better option than the side mounted version.

Updated SPR version 3.0 (ish) Now with standard A-2 stock and Leatherwood CMR 1-4X24 scope. Previously equipped with a Magpul PRS stock and FM Optics 4-14X44 FFP Mil Dot. Overall weight has gone from 13.5 pounds to just 11 pounds now. I thought AR-15's were supposed to be lightweight?

Keson - Proper looking Mod 1
I tried using the UBR on mine and it just didn't look right.

Andrej - I don't know what the coating is. The upper was built by Precision Reflex. I just check their site and pricing has gone up since I purchased it over a year ago. I guess they are still popular.

I ask because I'm looking into a WOA barrel but I think the stainless barrel looks pretty awkaward... no offense Keson . Basically, I'm trying to find out what black coating everyone is using.

Pic thread:

Here's my poor man's rendition of a Mod 1(notice the DPMS barrel doesn't have the shoulder for the OPS INC collar in the right place).

you might want to look in the AR15.com site. They have a huge SPR thread. what twist were you looking to get 1:7?

Will do. You wouldn't happen to have a link, would ya?

For the type of shooting I do, it doesn't really matter. But for the sake of keeping the build relatively true a real Mk.12, I'll go the 1:7 route. If it weren't for that, I'd just go with the 1:8 BCM

Thought I would bring this back to life!

My current setup on the SPR:

Took off the AFG and the Fakepoint. Subbed in a Primary Arms 4-16x44 in an American Defense mount.

Should be getting a bipod setup for it soon and later on down the line I will mimic OutlawDon's setup with a doctor sight cant mounted off the reciever!
