Wow, that is stringent. It would be worth asking Bond Arms to see if they can convince the Sheriff to change the requirements.

I found the flow chart that we use in Tehama County to see if your gun is in compliance:

1) Does it go, ‘BANG!’?
If YES, go to step 3) If NO, go to step 2)

2) Quit wasting my time kid, go play in the road or something....

3) Yer good!

Those assertions of what is required or what is prohibited are written in a way that makes them sound like they are asserting that it is a requirement of or prohibited by State law. Is this the case, or is that just county policy through and through? If the former, I didn't realize things were that strict for CCW here, including a registration mandate. I didn't even know that counties wouldn't add unregistered firearms to a permit until very recently. Made me wonder if that was a State mandate.

Just an FYI on CCW. I have a permit in Sacramento County. They have this rule. No rifle caliber CCW.

https://sacramentoca.permitium.com/ccw/start

Firearms

A total of three (3) firearms can be listed on your permit. Be sure each firearm you list on your Concealed Weapon Permit is registered to you or your spouse/registered domestic partner. This can only be done if the two of you reside together. The firearm(s) cannot be registered to any other family member. You may not add rifle caliber weapons (AR-Pistol, AK-Pistol, etc.) to your CCW permit.
Sort of a moot point anyway, AR-15 pistol is not exactly easily concealable.

It's a county mandate, not state. Every county is different. Breaking those rules isn't illegal, it just risks losing your permit if caught.

Also certain guns are impossible to list on the permit because of the restrictions, and I think (but not 100% sure) that it's illegal (by state law) to carry a weapon not listed on the permit.

You beat me to the punch. I am contacting the department now. It seems to show the 10.5" pistol pictures by mistake. They have the 7.5" pistol, so I will ask them to remove the erroneous photos.

New posted DOJ memo....what a coincidence in timing.

Quote:
Important Notice Regarding Single Shot Pistols Purchased by the Public
Purchasers should be aware that aftermarket changes or modifications made to certain single shot pistols (i.e. changing upper receivers, connecting gas tubes) may be considered manufacturing these pistols into assault weapons. See California Penal Code section 30515, subdivision (a)(1), for a list of assault weapon characteristics. The purchaser could be in violation of Penal Code section 30600, prohibiting the manufacture of assault weapons, and Penal Code section 30605(a), prohibiting the possession of unregistered assault weapons.

In addition to the above considerations, alterations of a single shot pistol (i.e. changing upper receivers, connecting gas tubes) may also be considered manufacturing an unsafe handgun. See California Penal Code sections 31900-31910 for the definition of unsafe handguns and 32000(a) for more information on illegal acts involving unsafe handguns.

Should you have any questions, please contact the Bureau of Firearms, Customer Support Center at (855) 365-3767 or via e-mail at bofdes@doj.ca.gov.

Now we need to ask the DOJ if the following also may be considered the manufacture of an unsafe handgun...

- installing an aftermarket barrel into a Glock 17

- swapping a 22lr upper onto a rostered 1911

- reshaping/stippling the grips on a rostered plastic framed pistol

It sure would be nice to end this nonsense once and for all.

"may" be considered....

So, it also "may not" be.

Thanks for once again clearing something up, DOJ

This advisory specifically applies to single shot pistols. It does not state that the it applies to Rostered "not unsafe" handguns.

Could they be saying if it's not done correctly the individual may have manufactured an "assault weapon"?

Is the charging handle connected to the bcg (like a Kali-key)? Is there more of a handle to grip than a standard charging handle?

Thanks for taking the effort to broaden the roster choices.

Even if you fixed mag on this pistol? Is it possible to even create an AW out of a fixed mag pistol/rifle?

Basically they are saying just because it made roster doesn’t exempt you from following existing regulations.

hmmmm, this may get me to finally buy an AR pistol.

i'll probably put that kingpin system on from the other calgunner so i don't have to worry about a locked in mag after installing the gas tube.

btw since it is a pistol, we can install those braces right?

If someone were to add a gas tube and one of those modified bolt catches (the kind that locks the bolt back after every shot and must be manually pressed to send it forward) would they still be able to use detachable magazines?

Is it crazy to get one of these and just keep it as bolt action? I think it’s pretty cool as it

Also, since the unsafe handgun manufacturing law only applies within California, it can be avoided by connecting your gas tube in Arizona or Oregon.

No, so long as it's a fixed mag. Some things that purport to be fixed mag devices may not be so.

I would not suggest advertising your intentions in this regard. And read up about concerns regarding the kingpin.

So I know it was stated these were being lined up for distributors in the coming weeks but I am able to add to cart on the website and get my payment method in order to complete sale. Is this working as intended?

intents to what?

add a gas tube, which is allowed, and adding a pistol brace, which is also allowed for pistols.

and if you are inferring my intent to shoulder, BATF even released their opinion that shouldering a pistol brace is ok. and CADOJ has no opinions on shoulder a brace.

i am even going to install a mag locking device to conform to the new AW regulations/law. unless the version franklin installs is easy to use / legal for semi-auto use, i may not even need to buy my own. just a different rear pin setup that will capture the upper when it is open.

where in my post has anything illegal been stated?

Proof we can all comment on whatever we want if it's at all related to the topic at hand!
