Default Enlisted Yesterday **Update**

I enlisted in the Army Reserve yesterday (23 Dec 2008) as a 74D at the rank of PFC.

----

26 Apr 2009

So I graduated Basic and I'm now in AIT... Crazy stuff. I'm much stronger and happy I signed up.

Have fun at FLW. It's freaking cold as hell this time of year. I once watched a puddle freeze before my eyes as I lay in a fighting position.

Why 74D?

But even from the start, I would have done an MOS usable outside of the military.

Congrats though!

Marines will take anyone, its up to you to have enough balls to finish.
Thats why the army and navy are so big they make it fail proof but its still a wonder how some people still fail.. haha

You know that US Army, when read backwards, stands for Yes My Retarded A** Signed Up...

What made you go reserves as opposed to Guard?

I got a 91 on my ASVAB so I pretty much had a choice of whatever I wanted... I chose Army because my grandfather was in the Army and I feel it's best.

Yes. I signed with $20k enlistment bonus, $20k student loan repayment, GI Bill $12k , Bill Kicker $12k and tuition assistance which will fully pay for my Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership - http://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/Bache...adership.shtml

I've a wonderful job at Apple currently and will continue to work there while serving in the reserves and completing my B.S.

Long term I plan on working for the CDC, after I finish my Master of Homeland Security in Public Health Preparedness - http://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/Maste...Security.shtml - I figure that with 10 or so years experience in dealing with emergency situations as both enlisted man and as an officer along with the B.S. and Masters, I'll be a shoe in :-)

My best friend is a 74D. We went to Iraq together. I was a medic and ran my own team and he was well... umm... the commander's driver/personal PSD for 15 months. He absolutely hated it. Other 74Ds I met (755 Chem Co.), gunners and food preparation specialists. Just saying, 74D is one of those MOS that when you need them in the field, you really NEED them, but otherwise, they are do-this-because-you're-a-Soldier-first recipients.

Ah yes, good old fort "lost in the woods", I remember it like it was only ummm, 36 years ago. They DO NOT call it little Korea for no reason. I was there in summer and it wasn't what you'd call a vacation spot.

Congrats man. You will have a blast! Remember to wink and smirk alot at the DS and answer every single one of his rhetorical questions and if he ever offers to let you touch his hat. Dont think of it as a trick and just DO IT. If you ever do anything stupid and he asks you what you were thinking while he is smoking you to death, always say that you saw it in a movie once

congrats!! sounds like you're in for some fun... as for the MOS, do whatcha like... i also caught flak for picking 19D when my asvab/gt scores were so high. hey, what can i say, the army did one helluva job putting together that video i watched in the recruiters office. even my recruiter was like, "you sure you don't want to pick something else?" hehe...

thanks for your service and best of luck to you!

I went to FLW for basic in 1987 from May to July. It was very hot and humid. I remember seeing pictures of winter classes and them standing in snow. I would do it again. Have fun and good luck.
