Default Need advise for a good place to camp and shoot.

I live in San Diego and am planing a summer trip with friends that live in Sacramento. I was hoping to camp somewhere some what secluded with trees no dessert camping. A half way point would be great but a little closer to SD or Sac would be fine. Any suggestions? Iím not apposed to camping near a cool outdoor range either. I donít want bullets wizzing by my campsite ha ha.

I've heard of this place. Sounds like what you are looking for.

If you're looking for things like BLM or something, please understand that not too many will give you the locations. You'll need to find them on your own. They get trashed all the time by the regulars, which we clean up, but it's a battle just to keep them from becoming dumps some times.

Good luck on it. Camping is fun and when you can walk out of the tent and blast a few is awesome

Not aware of NF where one may camp and shoot in privacy. There are shooting spots in the NF by Big Bear, but you will have others shooting too. During fire season, they are closed, so summer may not work out.

For camping and shooting by yourselves in So Cal, it's the desert. Can have yuuuuge fires too. But the summers can be tough. Make it early summer and it's not too bad.

Lake Orr

https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/klam...13170&actid=83

First, this is the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. No drinking water but drinking water available in another campground a couple miles away. No crowd. Bring a flotation device, blow-up boat or boat. This is 4800 ft., dry and hot in summer. It is to the northeast of Mt. Shasta.

Shooting: a mile or less away is a HUGE crater which you can dive into with natural back stops all around. It is an old quarry, mining volcanic stone. This is all within the US National Forest so their rules apply.

This is a long way from where you live but a very nice oasis where you will be left alone.
