First Mosin is here!
Someday I'll probably look back on this thread and think aww, how cute. So excited about a dead common Izhevsk 91/30 1943 round receiver Mosin.
But it's my first. You always remember your first, right? Got it all pulled apart for a good cleaning, it's been a shooter for a while but there's still a bit of cosmoline deep inside, screw threads, under the buttplate, etc. Stock is in decent shape, it's obviously seen some field service, but I'm planning to leave it unmolested. No bubba here. Pics coming. |

Everything cleaned, lubed, and reassembled. Firing pin measures .090, so we're good to go.
I shot one (that I was planning to buy) a couple months ago, and bought a case of bulgarian surplus before my buddy decided to keep it instead. So yeah...I have a bunch of ammo and a serious itch to get out to the range. |

I agree, it is not bubba if it is reversible, like long eye relief scopes.
Some collectors would look down on an excited mosin noob with a 43 Izhevsk 91/30. I like to refer to those types as "*******s". Yeah, a refurb 43 Izhevsk 91/30 is very common, but that doesn't mean it isn't historically significant...plus 91/30s are cool.

To me, a collector is someone that will buy all the mosins he can, never the same date twice unless he is getting 2 of each year, one to shoot and the other to clean up and store..

last June i bought a savage in 223. while i was waiting to get it out of jail i bought a big 5 1943 izzy MN. i was more excited to pick up the MN than the savage. i have bought about 11 Mosins sense then and seldom shoot the savage. why HISTORY and a powerful .18c bullet. that izzy you bought is a wonderful rifle and peace of history. built like all russian military equipment rugged and effective.

I have to wait six whole days before I get to shoot this thing.
Need to get some stripper clips too, I've been practicing loading and cycling it, but I keep getting the rims overlapped the wrong way, locking up a round. Suppose it's just a matter of getting a feel for it? The one I borrowed a few months ago put down about a 4" group at 50 yards, and that's with me having basically ZERO experience shooting a rifle. Will see how this one goes. I'm told ~2 moa is good for the non-sniper, full length Mosins? |

New to Mosin's myself, but I'm a believer now. I always thought they were ugly and didn't expect much for accuracy but was really surprised. Love mine and have an eye out for others.

I think this says it all:
Congrats on your new purchase, you may want this as well: http://www.amazon.com/Limbsaver-Slip...ords=limbsaver (Unless you like your shoulder all beat-to-hell after about 100-200 rounds.)

I bought my first Mosin due to the allure of a cheap military rifle that shot affordable ammo. Nowadays I am smitten with them and own several. They always get taken out on our desert shoots.

My first mosin was sone pos from ammo bros. But after about 4 hours of scrubbing and some elbow grease, my M44 was a mean sob. I unfortunately sold it to a friend as a favor and after about a couple years i got two more, M38 and a Finn Sako M39. I'm in love with the carbines because of the ability turn night into day and the Finn M39 for their accuracy and build quality. You can never have enough Mosins.
