Default 45 acp Snake Shot

Apparently CCI finally made a run of snake shot in .45 acp. I got an email update from an on-line ammo store (I put in the request 2 years ago) but since the change in the law I couldn't get it shipped. I went down to my LGS and they ordered it for me so I bought 5 boxes ($16 each).

If you want some you'd better truck on down to the store and get your order because it will probably be gone by snake season and will likely be a while before it is available again.

I still have .45acp shot from about 10 years ago. Was not hard to buy. Does not cycle the action but typically didn't need follow up shots on the rattlers.

.22 shot worked just as well so never used much .45

^^^This.

When I’m out in the wild like creek fishing in the Sierras, I carry a 10mm on the hip and a NAA mini revolver in the pocket. The NAA is loaded up with CCI snake shot. It works great.

How close do you need to get with the .22 snake shot to be effective?

Which 45 did you shoot the snake shot?

I have tried it in a standard 1911 and Glock 21. Both cycle the action. It didn't cycle an Officers ACP with 3" barrel.

Last August I took out a little 14" rattler on the edge of my wood deck and rail front porch, used a Ruger .22 single six loaded with snake shot from five feet, hit it just below the head-no visible porch damage.

When I was living in Ridgecrest, I usually ran away when I saw Mojave greens.

If the scary snake is more than a couple feet away, he poses no threat. If he's right next to you, there's the risk of spoiling your fancy pedicure with an errant pellet of shot. Just step away, and all will be fine.

A shovel is my weapon of choice for rattle snakes. Got one in the garage and another in the bushes next to the driveway.

I should mention rattlesnake aversion training for my dogs proved to work. They jumped away from the snakes in time to not get bit and let me dispose of the snakes.

My mid 70's mother hammered a mud hole in a juvenile today in my backyard after it hit 1 of our 3 dogs in the face. She had a putter she was using as a cane due to a bad back. She is a badazz and prevented the other 2 from the same pain most likely. Then she picked the little F'er up and took it out front for us to see when we got home Dumb cow dog will be fine... thankfully
