1943 Mosin 91/30 Hex receiver
Hi Guys,
Did Tula make 91/30 Hex receivers until 1943? One of my friends have a 1943 Tula Hex and he wants to sell and I am planning on buying it. I thought Hex receivers are really old 91/30s. Is it little rare? I mean does it have any collector value? please advice. thanks |

check the tang on the receiver. I bet it is a different date. Tula stopped making hex receivers in 1936 I think.

The "tang" is the back part of the reciever that holds onto the stock.
If you look at the cocking knob, it is the part of the reciver right behind it. It will have a screw that holds it onto the stock. The date is on the bottom, so disassembly of the rifle is required. Here The Finns recycled their recievers, the Russians simply made new ones. Seeing the Soviets re-using one, on a long rifle, is very uncommon.

I am guessing it was reworked in 1943 since I don't believe any hex where made that late in the war.

BTW - "izvesh" is not a word. Izhevsk, however, is a city, like Tula, were Mosins were manufactured. |

Here it is.
No that's not rust. I believe it is a Tula anyway. I've forgotten the details about this rifle but it is sweet as heck. Perfect bore, screw in escutcheon (sp?), tiger stripe arctic birch stock. A beautiful rifle...if I clean it. Edit: Just looked it up. Yes it is a Tula. But I don't know about the stamp on the hex part. Last edited by OHOD; 09-21-2013 at 2:08 PM.. |

Hi Guys,
One more question, are all 1928 and 1929 91/30 Hex receiver rifles ex-dragoon? On the 1928 Izveshk Hex I was referring to has gap beneath the rear sight and I have also checked a 1929 Izveshk Hex which also has a gap beneath the rear sight. So does it make both these rifles ex-dragoon? Please advice. thanks |

I just got a Tula that had the tang marked 34 and the orig ail date as 1934, but it must have been jan 1 1935, they restamped the 4 with a lil 5. Sad thing, the stock was all mared up, shelac didn't do well when I tried to clean it with denatured alcohol.

Both 1928 and 29 Hex Izveshvk ones I am planning to buy are in Laminate stock, is it good or bad? thanks |

Some prefer an original stock as originality adds value... Some prefer the laminated stocks due to then being stronger, and in many opinions better looking, so they add value to those... So take your pick... |

Here's a quick shot of my '28 Tula. Triple MO
It was the first rifle I every bought, about 1.5yrs ago at big 5, couldn't tell ya the difference between a Tula and an Izhevsk, or what people meant by hex. Just thought it was the nicest looking one they had.... I scored big, it's one of only 4 mosins I own, including a PU sniper, m44, and a m39. Last edited by jthesby; 09-22-2013 at 3:17 PM.. |

Per this link http://62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinRarity.htm
all laminate stock 91/30s are 6 on a rarity scale of 1-10, is that true? thanks |

Forgot to mention, all stamped matching serial #s and bores are excellent and bright.

I would say definitely a good deal. Unless someone suddenly dumps another million Mosins on the market, you will not lose money on them.

Thanks for the response. Mosins use to be $89 when I got my first 91/30 they are almost double today for just regular ones.
