Default old ammo

My dad the other day Gabe me a bag from the eighties full of scattered ammo. I've seen this bagbag throughout my child hood. Ammo on appearance looks fine, but I know it's just been in the garage. If it were a small about I'd toss it, my quotation is what are the odds somethings wrong with it?

From the eighties, I'd say you are fine. Just go shoot it.

Ammo from the eighties is not old. People still have and regularly shoot much, much older ammo. Are they reloads or factory? Will not make a difference as to age just in who loaded and do I trust them?

You're worried about ammo from the 80's? I better toss out all of this stuff from the 60's then.

I've shot ammo from the 40's and it functioned fine. As long as the ammo has been stored properly it should be fine.

That's what I meant! Storage. It doesn't look corroded or anything, but was in a sports bag from break dancing days. AlL factory ammo. I'll just make sure I wear glasses. Wife is out tomorrow so I'll sneak off and spend four or five hundred of it

I found about 1,000 rounds of this in an old ammo can at my parents house. I think it's from the 60's.

1880s or 1980s? One is old, the other should be just fine.

Most definitely get one - one of the more fun guns to shoot IMO, and you already have a stash of mags and ammo!

I inherited a 1902 colt .38 auto and a .357 python with tons of ancient ammo from my grandad who was a Deputy Sheriff. The .357 ammo is from the 60's and the .38 auto ammo is quite a bit older. I've not had a problem with the .357 stuff, but the older .38 ammo fails to fire about 10% of the time. I'm amazed that old ammo even fires at all.

Why is it amazing? It should work fine as long as it was stored reasonably well. There are people that shoot surplus from the 40's and even older without issue. Lead and brass certainly aren't going to go bad, primer and powder are actually pretty stable.

Check the markings on the mags and make sure they are for a USGI carbine.Find out what carbine mag it is before you go out and buy a rifle.
