Keep the T3. Many reviews saying the Pro isn't much better than a TRP.

I've had both and would have to disagree with that statement.

Having owned both TRP and Professional, there is a huge difference in fitment, finish and quality.

Anyone who thinks a TRP is almost the same as a Professional doesn't know what they are looking at.

TRP is a great gun, but it ain't a PRO.

So besides the fit and finish, can someone honestly say they can shoot a pro better than a trp? I know the differences in build quality so I donít need that argument. But yeah, just curious.

People probably won't shoot a Pro better than a basic RIA. The whole point of a high/higher end 1911 is fit and finish.

Own several TRP's and handled several Professionals.

There is a huge difference in the fire control and the Barrel to slide and the slide to frame fit.

With that being said a TRP could be Smithed to similar fit for $6 to $800.

However, I'd still love one of these bad boys.

They shoot about 1/2" tighter groups at 25 yards, which most here won't notice.

A RIA Match is a fine shooting 1911

People do underestimate them . . .

Too bad FBI stopped taking orders for them. That's why the are more available now. Serial numbers under 4000 - 4500, were made for FBI contract and with extra pistols there were not needed would be made available to public, thus the smith would not know if the gun was for FBI or the public.

For me, at my demographic level, a $3000 *pistol* is something I would be too scared to use just in case I scratched it! If I had the $3000 to spend for a 1911 with the word "Professional" stamped on it, I'd opt to put it in a glass case just as an investment and shoot my SIG 1911R instead!

This is just out of my league ...

I agree that most people wouldn't be able to outshoot a professional over the TRP, myself included. No one has mentioned reliability and endurance though. With the Professional having a better barrel to slide and slide to frame refinement and tuning, it can be argued that the Professional is reliable enough to grant FBI/HRT/DEA contracts. The same cannot be said about the TRP.

Here is the article regarding the FBI tests during the RFP. https://www.1911addicts.com/threads/...ield-pro.7995/

This is some good info ^^^^

I picked up a Pro with a serial # in the 5000 range. The lockup on the slide and barrel was ridiculous tight. I've put approx. 600 rounds down range so far, zero issues. I paid $3150 for mine.

IMO, I don't think the Springfield Custom Shop does a "lesser" job on the Pro now that the FBI contract has ended. The fit, finish and lockup on mine was great, I haven't read any complaints online. I do think that the resale or collectibility may suffer a little compared to a FBI serial #. For comparison, a Pro with a Nowlin barrel tends to go for more than one without.

Mosin Virus tested my Pro against some of his beautiful 1911 builds. The video link below shows a comparison for accuracy.

If you want reliability, get a HK USP and be done with it.
If you want praises from your pals at the range cause you got a fancier gun than they do, then get the 3k Springfield.
Oh, yeah, all the major agencies really need a $3,000 1911 for their agents cause of its superior reliability??
Ego is a fragile thing.....

Assuming I take the plunge and buy one of these Springfield Pro's, what sort of mods or upgrades do you guys recommend?

Bobby, nothing is needed in my opinion. I usually like to change out grips but I actually like the stock ones. Might want to get some Tripp/Cobra 8 round mags.

None.

Mags are the weakest link.

So chip or Tripp like mentioned above would be an upgrade.

The stock grips are grippy so that's a preference thing

Stipple job and a 3 1/2 lb connector. J/K.

IMHO, the Pro is the pinnacle of what a duty 1911 should be. It is designed for hard use with reliability and accuracy as it's 2 main parameters.

A bit of a cross-post, but here is some detailed info on the Pro:
https://www.1911addicts.com/threads/...article.18333/

And, here is some detailed info on the TRP:
http://www.tactical-life.com/combat-...eld-trp-45acp/

Enjoy.

Why do the new Pro hardshell cases have Picatinny rails on them?

Generic pic below; Note the rails on the left and right sides of the case toward the front.

Just curious.

I appreciate all the suggestions as I lean toward this purchase! Some Trip McCobra magazines, styples, and a 31/2 connecter*. Gripy grips are fine. Probably add some skateboard tape for better non-slipy tatical uses.

Thanks gents.

*I don't know what a 3/12 connecter is, but I will have it installed at the dealer so I don't vode the guarantee.
