Colt Competition model 9mm match barrel.
I really enjoy the Competition model 9mm. As reliable as my duty Glock , as accurate as my German p226.
I am looking into installing a match barrel to improve accuracy even more. Colt Competion Series guns use std. 1911 barrel set up and I like to keep it that way. Which companies make and install GOOD std configuration match grade barrels for a full size 9mm? Last edited by ap3572001; 05-21-2017 at 11:14 AM.. |

My vote: http://www.brownells.com/handgun-par...?sku=472000009 Get an EGW bushing made (or find one on their site) to your barrel and slide specs. Their bushings are listed by slide ID, then you provide the barrel OD and order. A new slide stop perhaps? Then find a reliable smith experienced with 1911s to install the barrel for you. May I ask why you feel the barrel needs to be replaced? And can you post pics of the gun, and the parts you have in it now?

It seems the OP wants a hard fit match barrel to get the utmost in accuracy.

He must have a non-ramped 9mm.
I would go Kart NM easily. Affordable and highly regarded. Have it fitted for your specific slide. But, insure before hand talk to whatever gunsmith who will do the work. He may give you suggestions. Make sure you research what type of fitting for a barrel you want. Not all gunsmiths may be familiar with each way. If he does not see much value in bushing to slide to barrel fit, you may want to check with other smiths. At least ask him why he sees no value in this. |

if you are looking at a "drop in" replacement barrel, then you are unlikely to find one that will make a noticeable difference than the colt barrel you already have. colt barrels are very highly regarded already.
however, if you are willing to spend the money, then I agree with Matt P above, have a Kart barrel fitted by a good gunsmith. |

For 9mm I recommend ramped Kart or KKM barrels. A fit barrel and bushing will be more accurate that a loose fitting barrel.
You can determine if your barrel is loose simply by pushing down on the barrel at the ejection port (empty of course) while it's locked up and in battery. If it moves there ya go. Another place to look is there space between the hood and breach face. Space between the bushing and barrel at the crown? Proper barrel fitting is something you want to pay a 1911 smith to do. Nothing worse than buying a nice new barrel and then having someone "fit it" to find out it's loose also because they fit it poorly instead of actually fitting it to that individual gun. There are two series of videos on youtube following two guys building 1911s from parts. The barrel fitting part ... wow, well after watching that it convinced me I'm never building a 1911 from parts. The tools and the knowledge to use those tools is beyond what time I'd have to commit to that project! So yeah, hire a gunsmith who has the right tools and experience!

Will's Gunsmith in Norco CA. He only works on 1911's and S&W revolvers. If you do send him the gun, be prepared to wait awhile, he is always busy.

Or, take it MosinVirus and ask him to test it on the ransom rest. I seriously doubt that a new Colt will improve much with another barrel. Nothing wrong with colt barrels. Tons of hype by after market vendors. |
