Big fan of revolvers but I see the Glock almost like a revolver. Squeeze the trigger and it fires a round. No safeties and no thinking required.

But the other day I enjoyed putting 50 .44 Special handloads down range with my S&W Model 29.

I like and own all the guns on the list. As to which one is "best" it would be very close between the Glock and the M&P.

"Best" for me would have to be lighter in weight, so that would rule out the steel (1911, CZ75) and aluminum (P226) framed guns. All those guns are reliable and accurate. Some have a larger mag capacity. So weight and mag capacity would do it for me. Polymer framed striker fired all the way for me.

Default 5 Best Handguns in the World.

They pretty much nailed it with that list, though despite its dated ergonomics I really think the HK USP belongs there too. I’d put it ahead of the S&W M&P.

When I read "best," I think "if you could only have one..."

By that definition it is most certainly a lightweight, reliable, easy to use for everyone, capacity friendly, aftermarket supported sidearm. Read: Glock.

Other definitions of "best" will vary.

What the hell, the S&W Walther clone is on the list, but not the USP or High Power?

I also have all of the above listed pistol, but for me it depends on the purpose. Carry, range, competition, home defense, etc., so here are my choices:

Carry = M&P Pro
Range = CZs
Competition = M&P Pro
Home defense = S&W R8 (8rds of .357)
All purpose = Beretta G-SD

1) P-226 - I have had one for over 20 years. Jammed once when a cheap aluminum Blazer round got very stuck in the chamber.
2) S&W M&P Shield 9. Another gun I own that I super reliable and perfect for CCW.
3) Glock 19. Don't own one but I know they are very popular for a reason. I personally can't stand the grip angle of a Glock, but will be picking up a Glock 29 soon.

That is all.

It actually led with the CZ then ended with the CZ. The rest were alphabetical. That dude seems to know how to write an essay.

Anyway, I think I got it covered and then some.

"Kyle Mizokami is a writer based in San Francisco"

I don't think Kyle has ever held a gun. Anyway, Beretta.

My clear answer was the 1911. For reasons of best gun, easiest to tune and modify. Best gun made. Yes, I do have other brands like Browning, Glock, Bersa, Ruger, etc. I'm not a fanboy of a 1911 but I guess I am a fan of 1911s. Glock is my carry choice for other reasons like reliability. But, if I could only own one handgun it would be the 1911 in the 45 Automatic cartridge.

There is no best! It’s what you as an individual like and prefer over another. Each person has a different opinion. The poll doesn’t have much to offer as its limited to just 5 options when there are so many others. Out of those any of them would do just fine depending on what you used it for that is....I have all of those including the bacon and love them all. Hopefully the bacon doesn’t ever fall off the roster in this state.

This about sums it up!

Also since no VP9 or G19 Gen 4 (at $500 over MSRP in Arkansas) the poll is a failure!

I think that article really meant to say "most popular and affordable" rather than the best.

I agree with that.
The whole "29,000 police departments in America going with the Glock can't be wrong!" Thing is dumb in my opinion.
I mean if every officer got to choose their own carry gun some would be like ummm i dont want to spend too much so Ill get a glock and some would be all high speed with a 1911 or an STI and at least one guy would carry a Desert Eagle lol.
Everyone has their own preferences, and unless your gun is shooting phenomenal groups, making you sandwiches and giving you bj's when you get home from work, who cares.

1911. I resisted them for years, then took armourers classes, and bought books. Can't beat a well tuned 1911, if you are willing to do the work. Otherwise a good revolver. And i mostly shoot revolvers. But can't beat well tuned 1911.

", the Glock line has expanded to cover nearly all semiautomatic calibers, including .45 ACP, and the gun has replaced the 1911A1 pistol in such organizations as Marine Special Operations Command and the U.S. Army’s Delta Force."

OUCH! FOR the 1911 fanboys!

"The Sig Sauer P226 served with the U.S. Navy SEALs for twenty-eight years, before eventually being replaced by the compact version of the Glock 17, the Glock 19."

OUCH! Again! For the Sig fanboys.

Glock will slowly but surely, take over the world!
