Seems like Ruger has a keen awareness of the market right now. I'd put my money on it.

Oh man, I just picked up an MVP. Guess I’ll need one of these, too. Don’t tell my wife.

Well F me. I bought the American compact in 223 a couple of months ago. And that was after I had bought the mvp flex and it turned out to be a piece of junk. I got the mvp precisely because it took AR mags. I totally want one of these rifles. And the original American ranch in 223 didn’t take AR mags. Damn.

I just bought the Ruger Ranch in 7.62X39 so I could use Mini 30 mags and cheap X39 ammo. I figured Ruger would come out with a 5.56 but didn't think they'd use AR mags.

I don't care for the Ranch's plastic stock, got a Boyd's laminate but (ouch) at $160.00. I have a Remintgon 700 in 6X45 that takes AR 15 magazines (modified by Pacific Tool & Gauge) but I'm probably not go to zip through 20, 30 or 100 6X45 rounds in a day of plinking.

This gives me something else to buy I suppose.

Very interesting. I just ordered the 7.62X39 version.

Maybe the 5.56 with 1:8 twist is in my future. My current bolt action 223 likes 55 Gr ammo. Might be nice to have something that likes some of the heavier bullets.

I got a 5 shot version in December for $319

SHUCKS!

It's a really fun gun to shoot. Here it is on its maiden trip to the range. A $20 Simmons 3-9x40 scope with $7 Walmart rings and range fodder AR ammo with 55g fmjbt Xtreme bullets with 25g H335 in range pickup brass.

Bore sighted through the barrel followed buy 'zeroed" shots at 100 yards. Good enough for soda can hunting or clay busting.

A very good compliment to the AR. Makes a very nice muzzle blast but you can put a flash hider or muzzle brake on the threaded barrel if you wish.

I KNEW IT! I always figured the 3 lug bolt in the RAR would be perfect for creating a chassis that runs AR mags. Obviously, Ruger knew that, too.
Oooh, I want one now!!

My ranch is incredibly accurate with my handloads and is not picky about powder. The low comb of those stocks sucks though. I got a kydex riser and it is like a different rifle.

Hopefully next year they'll add a 6.5 Grendel version. I'd buy one!

Cut and crowned is a lot cheaper than I used to think it was. My buddy just got a 26" Remington 700 cut and crowned to 20" for 50 or 60 dollars by a local gunsmith

Are those 100 yard 5 shot targets?

Nice work on the kydex..rockler wood working stores sells Allen head Chicago screws black finish unless you really need the adjustment knobs

That is 100 yards off a bench with a caldwell front bag, Leupold VX-1 3-9x40. High and right is Varget, towards the center is H335 if I remember correctly. I ordered the kydex riser from a kydex guy for like 35 bucks, he is veteran and does great work. I shoot Varget with a 55grn Vmax in this rifle but H335 is right there with it. I got the rifle for a utility rifle and for an early in the season scouting rifle for predator calling, lightweight and handy. The rifle has far exceeded those expectations, it always goes to the range or desert with me.

I have a RAR 7.62x39 in jail right now. I can’t wait to shoot it.

I’ll have to get one of those cheek risers.

I got some Accurate LT30 at a great price of $20/# and some 55g fmjbt's for $82 shipped. These are the really crummy ones with that looks like this:

but the weights are very close (0.1g) and the lengths are also very consistent

I am starting to work up some accuracy loads. Here's my first crack with the RAR 16" 5.56.

Honest 1 MOA with 55g fmjbt's. Now the velocities are nothing to write home about. I started at the bottom end of the load data and only worked halfway up. The 20.6g loads were a pathetic 2570 fps but for taking out soda cans or punching paper at 100 yards, this is a good, cheap combination. Not bad for a $320 gun with a $20 scope and $0.15/round ammo. I'm going to keep working up at least to 21.5g which is the published max load.

Now think about what you can do with the new model and a 30 round magazine!

The new 223 ranch is available now... Won't be long till we actually get to see some hands on. Is it for sure these will take pmags? Hope they actually feed smooth.

Guess I'm just impatient but I can't believe how little there is on the internet about this rifle... Didn't see any shot show coverage...

Seems like the MVP had it's share of problems I'm just hoping the ruger can reliably feed a bolt action from pmags

Autoloaders are a lot more popular than bolt guns. That shouldn't surprise anyone.

I bought an MVP. Thing was a POS. Maybe I got a lemon. Don’t know. Feeding wasn’t the issue. In fact I really don’t know how it fed.

Because you know how a rifle is supposed to go click-bang. Well mine went click. Brand new out of the box. Sent it back. Got it back. Fed the first round fine. Again just went click.

Didn’t even have the flash suppressor installed out of the box. Or even included. When they sent back the gun they just threw the flash suppressor in the box. Did t even bother to install it as it’s shown on their website. Apparently that’s a very hard thing to do. And their phone guy was dumber than a stump. Which is being unfair to stumps.

My ffl sent it back to Davidson’s and I got a ruger American.

If Magpul can make a stock for this specific model I would consider it for home defense.

I was thinking of the Magpul Hunter stock. Now that I'm thinking about it, a stock system that could allow it to use AR grip, stock, and handguard would be cool. It would make it like a more compact Ruger Precision Rifle.

My line of thought for the RAR as a home defense mostly stems from my refusal to use either a featureless rifle or magazine locked one. I hate this ****ing state - _-.
