Default 55” 4K tv $249.00 at Walmart.com

The brand is “Sceptre” i bought one and so far so good. Great picture for the money. Speakers are somewhat crappy for movies, but fine for tv shows/news. Drawback is they aren’t smart TVs but with all the fire sticks and xbox, that wasn’t a deal breaker for me. It’s by far the cheapest 55” tv I’ve ever bought. Extra $25 for 3 year warrenty

I paid $2,200 for my 46” flat screen Sony from Circuit City back in 2005. I will use it until it breaks so I get my money’s worth.

I remember when my father and I stumbled across a store closing and bought a 55" Panasonic Plasma for $500. It was the steal of the century at the time. Also, the best quality and smoothest picture I've seen up to date.

4k isn't worth it unless it had HDR at the minimum.

there are budget brands that are starting to put HDR in their line, like vizio and TCL.

but if you just want to say you have a 4K tv at the cheapest possible price, then go with this. if you want to actually enjoy and have use of a 4K tv (ie movie watching and video gaming) then get one with HDR at the minimum.

also make sure your HDMI cables is the newest version. some of the older stuff you may be using now, cannot support the speed/bandwidth that 4K + HDR needs along with audio.

Plan on buying a soundbar or the like, these have a GREAT picture for the money but like the OP said the speakers truly suck.

i am still running my panasonic plasma 50" tv too. i thnk i bought it around 2007?

i wish i bought it though when panasonic announced they were discontinuing the plasma line.

my only gripe is the heat during summer time. it makes the living room so damn hot after watching it for 2 hours.

I’m still rocking the very last flagship plasma Samsung ever made, the 60” F8500. Arguably the best plasma tv ever made. Nothing beats the 600hz sub field drive. Something lcd will never do. Good luck watch anything fast moving on that 60hz tv. Hope by the time my plasma dies OLED is a bit more advanced and cheaper.

All you guys that have plasma hold onto those things like 22lr ammo, IMHO nothing beats the old Plasmas (with higb Hz rates of course) , you cannot beat those rich colors. Made me cry when my toddler took care of mine with a Titleist.

I just bought this one from Amazon:

LG OLED55B7P 55-Inch 4K 120Hz Full Web OLED TV (Certified Refurbished)

Not cheap but not much over a thousand dollars either, for what tech reviewers are saying is the best picture quality OLED TV as of 2018.

https://www.cnet.com/products/lg-oled65b7a/preview/

I like that it has Amazon Prime Video and Netflix apps already built in. I can subscribe to HBO content through the Amazon app, so I'm pretty much all set.

Now I want a gaming console, my friends will never see me outside the house again. They can still come over though.

Haha. I had a 46” myself. Ended up selling it in 2014 because they were running out of plasmas and I didn’t want to miss the boat on the last flagship plasma. I’m holding onto this thing till it dies. Then it’s OLED.

Oh I know I am. Love my plasma. Had it professionally calibrated after break in. This thing is only second to a high end OLED at this point.

this is great for watching cable or antenna tv, nobody broadcasts in 4K with HDR. If you want the top of the line for your home theater room you probably want to get a better tv. I’m just saying for $250 it’s good enough for me personally. Looking at it right now, I’d says it’s a smokin deal

I would love to but unfortunately my 50" LG is starting to die. I'm getting splotches of green that goes away after the TV has been on for some time and gets warmed up.

that is my plan too. planning for a nice 80" OLED set in 8K (with how tv tech is movie, and how long my plasma is lasting)

i think with my low brightness settings, i'll probably be able to run my plasma for another 10 years barring any other issues cropping up.

I have a new Samsung 4K HDR from Costco and it is 'different' than any TV I've seen. It's 3D and old films now have amazing depth. They never looked that good in the theater. You find yourself addicted to re-watching old stuff as it has this reality thing that makes you feel like you are there. The detail is so good you can see the scratches on Luca's McCain's Winchester.

Besides the cable box I use a new Sony 4k blue ray player, that is a great unit. The audio needed a fixing up as well. I use a Project Audio Pre Box S2 32 bit DAC off the TV optical port. That is a top-notch converter that rivals designs costing thousands. With music it's stunning. $399.

I remember my first hi-def TV. It was a 50" Vizio plasma from Costco. 720P! It weighed a TON! And it cost me somewhere around $1600 in 2007. Was lucky to get $50 for it 8 years later, when 1080P was the standard. Then I had a Samsung 1080P plasma I purchased, for $2200 in 2012. She was a 63" beauty! Set it up in my movie room, and that TV was amazing. When we left CA for AZ, I just had no where to keep it in the new (smaller) house. Had to sell it and got (I think) $150 for it, as 4K was the new standard, and nobody wanted an energy hog, heat making plasma any more. LED had become the marketing rage.

My TV buying strategy has now changed. I recently bought a 55" LED 4K TCL. The entry level model from Walmart. $399. It has a great pic and all, but it will be out of date, or will likely crap out on me in just a few years, and I'll have to buy another one anyway, so I now just buy the cheapest model with the minimum features.

This 55" the OP posted sounds like a great deal!

Paid $1000 for a Samsung 1080p 120hz 46" back in 2009, still works and IIRC I don't have any 4k channels. Until fox news comes in 4k I won't be upgrading.

You don't want to see Judge Jeanine Pirro's facelift in glorious 4K?

My main display is a projector but I still have a few Panasonic plasmas in other rooms. One is a 58" 130lb beast I mounted myself
