Default Ruger sp101 going back for repair or replace?

3 days of shooting for a couple hours each day and today I get a little surprise from my .22lr. It had been doing fine with the other weapons.

Then Cylinder wasn't aligned when a round went off, wake up !

Shave and a haircut.

I will be getting return authorization tomorrow from Ruger and see how they handle it.

Ruger with no mention on my part is treating it like a blow up gun and is sending out a box overnight via fed-ex for return and asked me to save the box of ammo I was using.

Hope I get a new gun

I had that happen with an old Llama and some cheap .38's - definitely know something went wrong when you light one off that isn't aligned with the barrel.

Ruger has a good reputation for customer service, they'll keep you happy.

Just curious, were you having problems with the lockup before this happened with ?

Is that a chunk of metal missing from the frame?

Frame is intact. That is the shaved round welded next to the forcing cone and spilled over onto the edge of the outside of frame.

Was using 3 year old 525 bulk box of Remington golden bullets 36 grain HP.

Not a gunsmith but the lockup seemed fine, not super tight but not a lot play either. I did get some minor counter clockwise spin of the cylinder on initial trigger pull before it went clockwise. Was unsure if that was normal for these 8 shot .22lr's? Maybe the timing is off from factory? It's a fairly new gun late last year and maybe 400 rounds is all.

The gun shot left quite a bit, but was accurate once windage was acquired.

Ruger will take care of you. Something obviously went wrong. Good to hear no one was injured. I'll bet dollars to donuts they replace the gun which will be a little headache for you but likely worth the wait and effort.

Ruger will make it right I know !!! take your time and write a letter describing exactly why you are sending it in. I had a problem with a new p95 when brand new Ruger took care of it.

Question: If they replace the gun, and they should, will you have do go through
the DROS process again since it will have a different serial number?
Does that mean another 10 day waiting period?

yes, you have to do a new DROS if they replace it.

Well I feel pretty good, Ruger stepped up to the plate, my box arrived today and I put the revolver inside and sent it back out at a Fed-ex center to them.

Now we wait.

I had bought this for my wife to begin learning to shot on but the trigger pull was just to much for her dainty hands.

The triple lock up of the cylinder was pretty nice when this sucker went off. Don't think I would want to try it with my .357 but the .22lr was solid. Other than the thing spitting some molten metal, the ride wasn't to0 bad

If this thread was on a Glock forum, you would have at least half of the posters agreeing that the problem was due to limp-wristing.

what was the defect that would cause the cylinder not to line up properly?

Because the vast majority of glock malfunctions is from people limp wristing.

I've seen it four or five times myself, someone can't get a mag off without malfunctions, they hand it to someone who holds a firearm properly, and it fires as designed.

What does that have to do with this mechanical problem?

The SP101 most likely has a hand / cylinder ratchet issue.
I would not be surprised if these were replaced and the frame is OK.

It was much much worse than limp-wrist syndrome. It was the Chemtrail effect in Parker Az or anywhere USA. I began shooting just after 6 am. The Az. Desert in those parts is so beautiful from the river carving out the mighty Colorado, until the Globalist destroy our skies, land and lives.

I had heard these parts of Az. people had finally gotten involved and demanded action to the spraying. Apparently they aren't as dumbed down yet as us in Cali?

People need to get involved, speak out, donate to good groups that put pressure on these buzzards.

In 1 hr. of photos, these planes were able to block out the sun with these chemicals we will now breathe for 1 month as they circle the globe. Plane after plane dumping this craap till my gun broke.

Don't you break, donate, stop the madness.

This. Ruger ALWAYS does the right thing.

Remington Goldens are good rounds. Don't know what else to say. Please let us all know how it goes.

That didn't take long at all. Ruger called this morning and left a message to call them, they have determined that they will replace the gun at no cost to me.

I just need to pick a gun dealer.

Great customer service.

That happened to my 357 SP101. It was my first revolver and didn't know to check for timing and after a few rounds I got a rude surprise. Good thing I wasn't shooting magnums. I'm really disappointed in Ruger, my friend's SR9C was having issues with the trigger reset and walking pins. None of these guns should've gotten past QC. Their quality isn't what it used to be much like American cars.

And that's why you always buy quality products from known entities. They stand behind their products, be it fly fishing equipment, or firearms. I've yet to be left out in the wind. Good job Ruger!

Ruger like Smith produces millions of weapons and I'm sure they know exactly who inspects each weapon before it goes out. With these kinds of numbers you're going to have some defective issues slip by.

This gun didn't shave lead or lock up or have anything that I would have sent it back for, well the shooting left was probably at the max in manufacturer tolerances but I just didn't want to go to the hassle and expense to complain. Was this part of the cause? Only Ruger knows now. Did the gun go out in an unsafe mode, NO. It shot fine for approx. 400 rds.

Think about it, 30,000 PSI going off in your hand and we don't hear many stories of guns ruining someones day unless it was operator error or a reload.

Ruger gets a 10 of 10 here for customer service.

When I called on Wednesday they said the gun was scheduled to ship to Turners where I originally purchased it that day. I called Turners yesterday for What's Up? and they only take deliveries on Monday from their main distribution center and I'll probably get a call then when they receive it at my store.

The whole process is painless.

A lot of people knock Big 5 but as of right now and 3 phone calls, Turners can't find my .22lr heh heh

Delivered Friday at 9:45 am and signed for Fed Ex.

Maybe I'm not destined to own a .22 Revolver anymore or just my luck?

Received my new gun today. It's really tight, the lock up is amazing. Clearance on forcing cone/cylinder is .007.

I'm now debating whether to leave it NIB or play with it.
