Which Tokarev?
Which Tokarev pistol variant (which country) should one get first? Or if only getting one Tokarev pistol, which one to get? Thanks.

 Assuming you want a pistol. Get a polish or russian. Quality is higher than yugo or romanian. Polish is probably best intersection of price and quality.

Whichever's still cheap and available. That would be Romanian and Yugos. Keep in mind that Yugos have a longer grip and different mags.

I have both the Romanian and Yugo. While the Yugo is more comfortable to hold due to the longer grip, the Romanian has a better trigger and smoother action. In the end I am a better shot with the Romanian and would recommend it.

My Russian is my favorite. The Yugo holds one more round and the longer grip is more comfortable; the added thumb safety is the least objectionable. Romanian, Chinese and Polish are good too but the added safeties reduce their coolness. They all shoot well and are fun at the range.

I say go with the Yugo. The grips are already small enough and having the extra round is handy. The only downside will be looking for extra mags. Finding a slide on rubber grip meant for a Sigma helps too.
I have the Romanian version only because I found one local for cheap several months ago. The reloads I make are a kick. 110 gr. .30 carbine pills over H110 throws a fireball like you wouldn't believe.

I reload as well... Nice to know I can still load for this pistol since the ammo is getting scarce... Still got another 20 or so days before I can DROS another pistol unless my COE happens to arrive sooner than expected but I wouldn't hold my breath. I guess I'll just have to get it and let it sit in jail a while longer while I gather up the reloading equipment for it.
Anyone know of a cheaper place to do dealer transfers in the Orange County area other than Riflegear? Nothing against them as they have great service but they charge $100 to do it. I believe SW Industries charges $75 but don't know anything about them...

The Russian made of course. If you can't find it or costs prohibited then Polish is next in line. I used to own one till I only left modern guns in my safe.

I've read somewhere else there could be some issues with the Yugo safety and there are ways to correct it, do you guys who own Yugos know what that is about? I've looked at all of them and so far like the Yugo the most because of where the safety is placed (closer to 1911s)...
What's a good source for complete disassembly tutorial of Yugo M57 since they're a bit different than other Tokarevs?

I've own Russian, Polish, and 2 Romanian...
In the end, it's all about condition. My Russian Tok is bit worn and did not have the after market safety that's mandatory to the newer import. Reliable as a hammer. Foolishly sold it to fund other projects. The Romanian I bought from Turner's later is in better condition (I picked the pistol from the 5 or 6 Turner's have in stock). However, the safety is really loose and feels homemade. I always accidentally flip it on while shooting. So, that one was trade... About 2 years ago I picked up a Polish and Romanian from J&G. I asked for hand pick and select the best one out of a dozen or so pistols. The added safety feels secure and well made. I still have those 2 toks. In the end it really doesn't matter which origin (unless you are collecting then get the Russian). Just pick one that's in good condition and the safety feels well done. Good luck!

I have the Yugo M57 tokarev, and its great. Trigger is nice, and didnt have a problem with the safety at all. They have a 1911-like safety added, which I like better than the trigger block on the others.
Also...why not a CZ52? Very nice tokarev chambered pistol there!

I think the thinner grip of the Tokarev would suit me better, plus I'm getting it to shoot with my dad, since back when he was in the military he actually used the Chinese T54 variants. Since I can't get the T54 easily, he'll have to shoot whatever I get for him...
 If I get the Yugo I believe I will remove the safety, then get a set of grips that will cover the holes... Some of those grips look pretty darn good. Last edited by pklin1297; 02-13-2013 at 9:44 AM..

I'd look for one that doesn't have the BS Obama safe added to the pistol. That little feature will insure that the pistol in question is always going to be on the bottom of the barrel, value-wise, to collectors.

I like my yugo. Longer grip, more capacity. The only one I can compare it too is my Polish TOK. Fixing to order a Romanian for the heck of it.

I plan to enjoy shooting whatever Tokarev I get as much as I can, so collector value is not as important to me.
But has anyone seen protruding extractor pin on a Tokarev slide before?

I've been waiting for a Polish Tokarev to become available on Classic Arms but it doesn't look like they're restocking anytime soon. I might go for the Romanian one, but I have read that besides Russian the Polish ones are most desirable because of the quality of arms from the Radom 11 plant.

The reason these Tokarev pistols are still available is because the ammo is not. The Yugo M57 does have safety issues and the fix is to simply take it out. Classic has the Polish P64 and I think J&G still has some 9mm Yugos. Id go with one of them instead of the X25 due to the cost & scarce of ammo
