Default 44 MOA Spuhr Scope mount and Nightforce ATACR (100 moa)

So I have ordered a new ATACR and will be ordering a new Spuhr mount for it. Has anyone played with a 44 moa version of this mount. My concern is I might have a distorted view when trying to shoot at 100 yards. Just wondering if any of you have any 1st hand information you can share on this topic.

Yes you will. You’ll lose about 20% due to viginetting. Do you really need to dial that much?

You wont have a distorted view at all. I run a NF BEAST on a 40 MOA DT mount no problem. I've been running it for several years. All my rifles are zeroed at 100 yards.

The reason you want a 40 MOA mount would be to do some ELR. Otherwise you run out of adjustments.

Why would you think you would have a distorted view? Mounts wont effect the optics quality , especially an ATACR

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

Which ATACR? Assuming the 7-35x56 since you said 100MOA

Per Spuhr
"To allow for the greatest available range of adjustment choose a mount with a tilt that is half of the scope’s range of elevation...We generally recommend as little tilt as possible as large amounts of tilt really may have a negative impact on the quality of the sight picture"

So based on their recommendation, a 44MOA mount is less than half of the 100MOA elevation of the ATACR.

But do you need the 44MOA mount? What gun is it going on and what is the maximum distance you think you will shoot with it?

If you won't be shooting out past 1000yds regularly, than a 20MOA mount will probably be sufficient.

"Vignetting" is when you can't get a full sight picture and get dark/black ovals around the edges because you are not utilizing the full exit pupil

Per SPUHR
"when mounted in this extreme elevation it’s common to experience optical defects such as a oval pictures when shooting at near targets"

Depends on the optic, user's eyes, range conditions, etc
