Default Vortex Strike Eagle 3x18x42 SFP Scope.

I have the Vortex Strike Eagle 3x18x42, it is a second focal plane scope. So the reticle is the same size at all magnifications. BUT to use the MOA marks on the scope reticle it must be at 18 power.
What I want to know, is if the scope is zeroed at 200 yards. And I use on the cross hairs, and DIAL for elevation does the scope have to be 18 magnification?
Or can I say use 12X and have no issues. At 18X I dial up 6 MOA to hit targets 400. Will this change if I use say 14X. I track my targets better at slightly less magnification. Thanks A2

You can use any magnification when dialing. The rest of the reticle will change value but the crosshair will remain constant regardless of magnification. (Assuming a quality scope, which your Vortex is.) Since you are dialing instead of using the hold marks on the reticle, and you already know the distance & the angle to adjust, the rest of the reticle is unneeded.
