Default What is your favorite fixed mag solution thus far?

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of taking the plunge and going fixed mag. What is your favorite solution thus far? I would like to keep my bolt open function intact. Is there anything like the hellfighter but with a bolt open option?

I like my Maglatch paired with loaders.

Once the market calms down, I’d probably try one those fancy rear take down pins.

Lately been liking this. Quick to install, quick to uninstall.

Use the Magpul mag slightly modified they sell and you can remove the floor plate super fast if needed. Or you can do the mod yourself.

MA Arms speed loaders so you do not have to open the top.

https://www.meanarms.com/products/de...oader-for-ar15
Small learning curve but it works and is fast.

FC HOOK or featureless.

I posted a thread on how to clear a jam with the FC Hook. Should be on their website.

It will not work with modification to the lower or upper on an aero M5 (308).

Just got the FC Hook, really like it. I also like that it isn't permanent like the MA Lock or overpriced.

I really like the Hogue Freedom Fighter. Very cheap solution that I used on cheap lowers I didn't mind putting a hole in. Plus, I can fix a double feed. The upper can separate just enough to eject the mag even with the bolt back.

Iím building a gun with the FC Hook right now. Easy to install and does not require drilling to remove. Iíll use either a Mean Arms or a Bear Flag loader.

I went with mshill's mod and some MA Loaders
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1366673

simple, cheap except for the loaders, positively locks the mag in, but easy to reverse

I used the hogue freedom fighter with the jt rear pin. I like how the combo works together and I can get the mag to release if there is a jam or double feed.

I think the DFM mag is best legal solution for when in public, but would definitely prefer the kingpin and an armaglock or something.

I kinda see an LEO saying the kingpin isnt disassembling the action.

Fc hook with bf-10 loaders. No mods needed and easy to swap back to unaltered for out of state trips. Plus I still get to use all my mags I already own.

Pmag mod 3 donít work so well with my fc-hook, had to do some dremeling on the mag.

Fc-hook and the bf10 are the easiest but take so long to reload.
When Iím on the bench I donít mind but I want to get some traing in with my AR and I cant have the class wait for me to load the BF10 nor do I want to buy several bf10 loaders

For that reason alone, Iíve been looking at the 33.3 tactical mag catch and the hellfighter/kingpin take down pin.

I like the Compmag. I'd rather keep the gun unmodified and just use a modified magazine.

Going with the Juggernaut mod on one of mine. Only concern is the lack of ability to lock back the bolt.

Had a buddy with one and really liked it so I bought one for one of my rifles to give it a shot.

^^^^ Obvious my preference as well. The FC Hook would have been my second choice but at almost $40 per firearm it would have hurt a lot and then to have to invest in the MA or BF-10 loaders would have broke the bank.

It scares me drilling into my previous lower Maybe on a cheap receiver, but not an Aero or Spikes.

I had the same problem. I drilled my spike's lower, but couldn't come around to putting a hole in my colt.

I'm using FC Hooks on my fixed mag rifles. I like the ease of install/removal. I like that there isn't any controversy/debate that you have with some of the other methods (ex: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1448917 )

If you are going to use the FC Hook I would definitely check to see if your mags are compatible with your lower when using the FC Hook. I had to mod 1 of my M3 10rd mags in one rifle (5 seconds with a hand file) but the same mag worked fine in another lower without mods.

I use them in conjunction with Bear Flag and Mean Arms loaders.

^^ But with ARMaglock, it just isn't as smooth as the JT Hellfighter kit. I have equal amounts of both since I'm torn between the two. The LRBHO on the Kingpin/ARMaglock is a must though if you need to show clear...

Mshill for the win. Honestly I am surprised that so many folks are so afraid to drill a hole in the lower, I would understand if you could see it or it somehow could hurt the function but this mod is so simple and easy and best of all pennies on the dollar compared to all the other solutions. I do understand though there are people who aren't capable of drilling and tapping and there is nothing wrong with that no judgment from me there but I bet someone would help them if they asked, its money saved for ammo!

it will eventually loosen up and wear in to work smoothly...

Not really afraid, I just don't want to deface my favorite rifle.

Yeah I guess afraid was probably the wrong word. I hate the fact that we even have to consider this type of thing. I did all of mine and it is literally unnoticeable unless you really start looking. And the hole is tiny.

I bought 3 Juggernaut Hellfire mods impulsively. They work great but if I had it to sdo all over again, I would have bought 1 and also the Maglock / Kingpin Gen 2. The Gen 2 separates the UR and LR about 1/4", like the Juggernaut. The AR Maglock Gen 1 allows the UR to open full access only. AR Maglock actually has 2 Gen 2 versions --- one with the Kingpin and one with the dual function pin. The dual function pin has the large ring that is rotated to separate the LR/UR 1/4" or to allow full access for cleaning etc. The Kingpin version ($25 more) works similar to the Juggernaut wherein the pin is rotated into 1 of 2 positions. First position allows the action break by 1/4" to allow mag changes. Position 2 allows the action to be opened and pivoted for cleaning etc. So it's a push button pin or a ring style pin - your preference. the ONE THING I like about the the AR Maglock Gen 2 is that is allows you keep the standard bolt catch. I've heard - please correct me if I am wrong, that it is not good for the bolt to be slammed closed without stripping a round into the chamber. Going to order a gen 2 with the Dual Function (ring) pin and try it on AR #6. I have 2 that are featureless, 3 with the Juggernaut and 2 left to modify. Also have an LR-308. The Gen 2 Maglock does nto seem to be available (yet) so I'll likely use the Juggernaut for now. IMO, The Gen 2 Maglock has 1 huge benefit over the Juggernaut - You get to keep your bolt catch and clearing double feeds is a snap. Of course, if I'm getting double feeds, that itself is an issue. I get them very, very rarely.
