Huge thanks to bikr4jc, wouldn't have happened without him, as he took charge of the range RO stuff, did the flags, and deputized ROs, so huge thanks to him.
Lots of lessons learned on how to do this. All those years that mrlonewolf was doing this, had no idea about all the little things that needed to be done and organized.

A big thanks to PTOGuy2002 & Bikr4JC for taking the lead on this event in LoneWOlfs absence.

The RSo's did a great job. Thank's to all of you who donated your time to keep us safe.

The wind Sucked and never really let up, but we didn't let it ruin the weekend.

Hrrm... that's strange. I kept a starbucks warm for you on the hood of my Ford, but it seems to have gone to waste...

I was there with my pops, southern most camp that packed up and left Saturday morning, but the wind was just too much for us. Didn't feel like wasting ammo while getting wind burn.

Thanks to everyone that made this event part possible! I so enjoy hanging out with like minded law abiding folks! I was “blown away” by the generosity shown by our group. Can’t wait for the next one!!

A quick note about the conditions - This was the wind/temp from SSZS 8.5 and here is the wind/temp from SSZS 9.0. Roughly speaking, the wind at 9.0 was terrible, and by most estimates worse than 8.5, but the temps were considerable higher which may have helped most in attendance to deal with the less than ideal circumstances.

Without further adieu, for those that missed...

As tradition, had to get the colors flying (thanks to Bikr4JC):

Camp:

Was too lazy to break out the EZ up with the temps/wind, but I couldn't just lay on the ground and shoot rocks...

Couple of our much needed RSOs:

11AM food drop off:

The food line beginning to form:

Chris Costa stopped by to Opr8 on some 8mm:

And then there was the cannon...

Our 2nd zombie volley ...

The wind blew more than the fair share of trash back out into the wild, so a couple of us grabbed a few bags and got to picking. Not sure who this calgunner is, but thank you for doing your part and helping out:

With the sun finally setting and the dusk winds picking up, it was time to retire to camp, prep the fire, get dinner going, and watch the moonrise:

Slow cooked tri-tip and some sweet sweet corn on the cob:

This was a record for campfires; in 3 hours, we successfully burned 2 truckloads of wood. In the 4th hour, we added an additional 3 wheel-barrels of donated wood (Thanks OrangeWelder & Brian5271)

What was left? a 6 foot wide, 2 foot deep hole of white-hot coals:

By Sunday AM, over cinnamon rolls and crispy bacon, the winds hit "gale" status:

It was time to pack it all in, collect some of the trashbags on the way out, and hit the road.
All in all, another great trip, albeit windy AF. Good company, good friends, new friends, and some awesome trigger time. Looking forward to catching back up with all the "old" regulars and the "new" regulars at the next one.

Just wanted to say a word of thanks for all of those that volunteered their time to make this event happen, and for keeping it fun and safe. This was my second time attending (my first was either 5 or 6) and I had a great time and met some nice people.

I also thought I would post a few lessons learned this weekend;

1) I need a recoil pad for my Mosin Nagant!

2) In spite of being a bunch of deplorables (like me), this event was filled with lots of really nice folks :-)

3) Wind sucks.

4) Really, I need a recoil pad for my Mosin Nagant..

5) Somebody over at the main fire is a pyromaniac! I was duly impressed with how much wood you guys burned! I am glad I could help feed your fire with my left over wood. Next year I will bring more and join you all around the fire.

6) Wooden legs and PVC pipe bases for target stands are no match for fragments of 308 rounds bouncing off of steel. They lasted through the weekend, but look like Swiss cheese now.

7) Seriously, why the heck did the Russians not put a recoil pad on the Mosin? Holy cow that thing kicks!

8) SSZS is a great event that I will absolutely be back for! Thanks again for all who put this event together.

Fun, but way too windy for me! And I missed a lot of familiar faces!

This was my last SSZS before we move Hoping to still attend in the future, we'll just have to rent an RV and fly down into Ontario to pick it up or something. Not sure how that works, but we still want to come join in the fun!

(Headed to Seattle, which, I know, is only slightly better than CA, but at least has no state income tax!)

Good work Donnrcp!!!!!

My bro inlaw and his teen boys and I had fun blasting that zombie at the firing line. The boys had 22s and we had 762x39 and 30 carbine blasting his head, too bad he didn’t go down at first. Strong *** zombie. It was our first zombie shoot, won’t be the last!!!

Next zombie won’t be so lucky we are gonna bring the House!!!! Lol

RacinJasons rig in the foreground

This is view from inside EatDirts mobile home.
Thanks again Ron for the shelter and chow

Thats my little rig and setup out there in front.
Its an ABC Canopy and I am impressed with it holding up in the winds.

Several folks asked about this pop up type canopy.
Its an ABC from Amazon,
I carried this in the box and it fit inside the Ford Escape with the passenger seat moved forward about half way.

I had points on my credit card so it was only $173 shipped (free shipping)

Order Summary

Item(s) Subtotal:
$255.95
Shipping & Handling:
$0.00
Total before tax:
$255.95
Estimated tax to be collected:
$0.00
Rewards Points:
-$82.14
Grand Total:
$173.81

It held up well in the high winds. I did park the Escape on the wind side to help deflect it up and over.
I also had four bottles of water in each of the 4 weight bags I attached at the top corners along with the 4 spikes that came with it.

I think having the inside legs lower than the outside was a big help.
This was the 3rd time I set it up (10x10) by myself with no problems.

I highly recommend this critter. It comes with walls, a door and a lower front panel for a vendor booth.
Also has a large screen panel comes with it.
Various colors.
It does appear to be made in China, I would guess a better part of China with better quality control.
Legs are steel and epoxy painted.

Thank you to all that put this event together and participated.
Thank you EatDirt for a quiet place to sleep and a dust free environment to help eat your food.
Thank you Jason and Angelina for the Coffee (shirt is in work)

Thank you bako for the tri-tip and Sunday morning breakfast, thank you Josh for hauling that stuff up to the Potluck.

I had a great time moving around to the various campfires and talking with you guys and those that stopped by for a shirt or two.

This years 9.0 design was a hit
Now what to do about design for SSZS 9.5 in Oct/Nov?

Is it going to be a Full moon event or a dark as midnight event?

I am planning on making some youth shirts as well as some hats with the flashlights on the brims for you night time shooters.

Okay, time to finish inventory and Taxes.

Vick
