Default Getting an ATF determination letter

Question for those of you who are manufactures. I have a friend who is planning on building 80% receivers and he wants to ensure that he obtains his determination letter before offering the 80% units for sale.

I've never done this myself so I'm reaching out to those of you who have. What is the process. I did a quick check of the ATF website and didn't find much detail other than one can contact the ATF for a determination letter.

Is there a specific branch or address in which to send the information to? Also, what information is needed to establish that the receiver is a true 80% unit?

Thanks in advance!

contact a local ATF office and most likely a sample will need to be sent to the Tech Branch for determination
