Maybe if you ever get down to the south bay and I get my gas port sorted out, we could do the Pepsi challenge, .458 SOCOM vs. .50 Beowulf?

That sounds like fun, I actually work down there every couple of weeks. We actually met once at either the Sunnyvale pile in to stop them from hurting local FFL's, or at Oaklander's BBQ at his place, forget which. If it was at Oaklander's, I was the guy that showed off the little rainbow colored .380 LUCC pistol if you remember.

I am running a 10.5 in 1:7 twist. Faster twist makes sense for shorter barrels.
I have never shot mine past 50yds, and only surp ammo with it and either a rds or just irons but it can pull just under 2in at 50yds, so I would guess circa 4moa at 100yds?

Maybe with highly quality ammo and a magnified optic the groups could shrink, but I dont see the benefit considering it is a "pistol"

Going to add an FDE sling sometime in the near future. Hard to tell from the photos, but Fire/Safe are Power/Sleep.

Finally finished building out my Spikes/RRA hybrid 7.5" pistol. Decided to run without iron sights or optics since it's just "common sense" that evil guns are much more deadly when spray-fired from the hip.

This is a CQB pistol intended for homeland defense against successive waves of looters in an SHTF situation so rapid target acquisition is effected via judicious application of the green laser. The green laser is visible in full sun. Working on a phased plasma booster for the laser that will increase output power from 5mW clear up into the 40W range.

Spike's Tactical (blemished) Lower
RRA 7.5" A3 Upper w/RRA Free Float Quad Rail

Phase 5 Tactical Pistol Buffer Tube
Magpul XTM Rail Panels - FDE
Magpul Polymer Trigger Guard - FDE
KNS .250 Push Button Pivot Pin
KNS Push Button Rear Take Down Pin

Followed exile's route. Since this is solely a SHTF/Fun gun, figured why not.
Custom 520nm 5W laser, with pressure switch. BTW this laser can be seen in daylight as well

Alright! Finished putting together my first pistol build! Still deciding on a cover for the buffer tube, and I might paint/anodize/otherwise finish the lower eventually, but I couldn't wait to put it together once I got all the parts.

Trying out some different optics and sights... C-More Systems 3.5MOA Red Dot in desert tan:

This one's outfitted with a couple of 1.25" nitrile rubber bumpers inside the cover for extra protection of the Spike's pistol buffer tube.

So I am wanting to build one of these out of an 80% lower. I understand that I have to do the mill work on the lower myself [Or someone before had mentioned I would have to be present when the work was done.] for it to be legal. But what steps do I take from there?

You'll have to do the milling yourself, e.g., place lower into jig/CNC mill, press start button. After that, it's now ready for your lower parts kit installation. If you haven't built an AR lower before, lots of how to's on the web.

My recent 80%; had 2, one for a rifle and the other for a pistol:

Yea I get that bit. I am meaning more along the lines of do I have to file any paperwork or anything when it's completed. Or am I good to go because I manufactured it myself?

Ah, I see. Nope, you don't have to file any paperwork since you manufactured it yourself. Yes, a legally owned non-registered lower.

I'll have a couple 80% lower ready to build soon. Was thinking of doing on as a 9mm. What do I need? Just a 9mm upper and magwell block or is there something else? Which ones should I avoid and which are preferred? Can I use a standard pistol buffer spring? Already have the PWS buffer tube ordered.

Anyone else done a 9mm, did you keep it or swap it?

You will want to look into a 9mm buffer or spacer (7 quarters) for your standard HEAVY buffer.
Get a decent magwell adapter. Hahn or spikes top loading block. Depending on the adapter you might need an extended bolt catch (RRA is the best source)

Cheaper than dirt has the best price on CMMG ramped bolts.

Here's my recent 80% AR pistol build. The 7.5 upper, 80% lower and buffer tube assembly are from Vytamenc Tactical. Engraving by Vaderspade and Burnt Bronze Cerakote by Merlyn's Rifleworks in Riverside.
