Question....I am presently a San Bernardino County resident with a valid CCW in said county...I might be relocating to LA county in the near future. Is there a process in which I can have my CCW transferred to LA county? If denied, might this be a good court test case to force LA county officials to recognize our 2nd amendment rights? Thx for the replys!!! Ulmapache

Are business owners having any better luck with the applications ? I own a small security company and some of my clients are intrested in having me escort them to the banks (night Deposit boxes) during evening hours.
By the way, I'll be applying through LASD. Last edited by gonzo1510; 10-20-2012 at 12:14 AM.. Reason: added info. |

From SBSO....if you move to LA county, you have to reapply all over again, and will be denied. I think this would be an excellent court case if someone out there had the financial resources to pursue it thru the courts. Just because a person relocates to another area of the state is no cause to deny his/her right to carry. After all, the permit is valid STATEWIDE!

Yes Im familiar with those cases. Thanks. I was inquiring specifically into LA County and its policy. I see a demurrer was filed in the Baca case and then a FAC. Any updates on this cases status?

Anyone want to do a new years summary on where we stand with LA County CCW issuance? I know we have some new cases against Baca, old cases from ~30 years ago against LA County, stuff in the 9th circuit and probably some new stuff in the pipes. Also anyone have any ideas of what we could expect for January and for 2013 that could give us some hope?
Also I haven't found any new good case statements. Did we not have any success getting them out of the hands of LA County processing office? I think large sums of money was one of the potential new statements but we never heard a dollar value. Being famous is a given, but most of us aren't. We know from other people's experiences that being targeted for death threats won't get you any where in this county.

Sheriff Lee Baca and the Gun-Gift Connection
Brandon Combs, executive director of the Calguns Foundation, says he has been frustrated by Baca's refusal to turn over public records that would show why certain applications are approved and others are denied. One of his clients, he says, took out a restraining order against a sheriff's deputy who threatened him, but has been denied a permit. "Often the sheriff says there has to be a legitimate, proven threat against the person," Combs says. "This person has an active restraining order against an L.A. sheriff's deputy for a threat against his life. He can't get a license, and we can't get access to records to find out why he doesn't qualify." http://www.laweekly.com/2013-02-14/n...s-permit/full/

Live in Santa Monica and waiting to pull the trigger on CCW as soon as I get the word. I have the cash/jewelry reasonable cause...we use armor trucks for delivery and I am insured for delivering stuff but that doesnt exactly protect my life when I often have to make deliveries myself. I feel like I will be waiting awhile. :-) Last edited by dspiel; 03-19-2013 at 4:03 PM.. |

CA Republican Jones introduced AB 871, the "shall issue" bill. Probably a long shot. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/13-14/...ntroduced.html Last edited by robear; 04-08-2013 at 2:35 AM.. |

Lol, yea with our current government it's a pretty damned long shot and an empty gesture by Jones, no offense to the man.

It lost by the way lol. Seems a bill like this loses every year or so.
Meh if you don't take the shot, then you're guaranteed not to hit the target. If we support Jones, then it shows politicians that supporting gun rights is worthwhile, and maybe one day a bill like this will pass. Who knows. It doesn't hinder the other efforts being made. |

Seems about time for a quarterly update. Are things pretty much in a holding pattern for now awaiting an outcome in Lu?

Lu will not get permits. Hold is pending Richards/Peruta and the 3 other cases pending against LA in the 9th Circuit. But that is no reason not to go apply and get in line. LASD, TPD and LAPD have all been sued, but we need other municipal departments in LA, so if you want to be at the front of the line, or can add another department to the mix, the time is now.

I'm about to apply, but first I must take a course. Anyone recommend a good one within 25 miles of 90249? For my "good cause" statement I'll write something like:
"I fear for my life everytime I step outside my front door. Have you seen or read the news lately? I don't carry large sums of cash, or a briefcase full of expensive jewelry, but my life is far more valuable to me and my family than all the riches this world has to offer. I'm not looking for trouble, but if trouble finds me, I want any and all means legally available to me to thwart said trouble. Pulling a weapon on someone is the last thing I want to do, but again, if an unavoidable violent situation were to confront me, I'd want the option of using deadly force."

2 - doesnt matter what you put down but just say why you need it. Its not a conversation - just say "I do x, y, and z and feel a need to protect myself". Or "police response in my area is slow and I feel that I need a way to protect myself". Short, sweet, and to the point. No sense trying to convince them of anything. 3 - if you're applying to lasd iirc the only other thing you need to do is submit $10 with your application. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Assuming you are in Gardena, it will be interesting to hear what that department does (or are they a contract city?), but i think having training in advance is a good idea and shows your commitment.
You cant go wrong with www.tac-1.org, they are all LAPD range instructors or above and teach an 8 hour course that is everything you need to know from handling to marksmanship. From there they have a number of advanced course that are truly advanced and a lot of fun. classes are all taught in the san fernando valley. |

Pasadena issues a few with good cause, but most are issued to reserve officers. There are only about 1,000 permits issued in Los Angeles County. 425 of those are LASD and 20 are LAPD. The rest are from the small departments. Culver City was about 200 of those permits when the stats were last released but they have cut back. That leaves about 300 for the remaining departments or 250 after deducting Pasadena which was next highest to Culver City I think.
You should apply, then go to sheriff if denied, and then sue when denied by Sheriff. Pasadena has not yet been sued and needs to be added to the list of defendants if they are not in compliance with the law. |

I'm debating the merit's of putting in an LTC application, but I predictably (with me living in LA) I have some questions. I'm aware there is no significant movement on the local level with the county, and I'm aware how long it's been since anything at all was addressed in LA.
First off, I do believe I have circumstances that would merit good cause for an LTC, even by LA county standards. With that said, would it be better for me to apply to LAPD (my city doesn't have a local PD) or LASO? Second, since I do spend a very significant amount of time in Santa Barbara County and since my primary bullet point justifying my application stems from my employment and work within that county specifically, would it be an option to apply there? Finally, based off what we know about LA's accepted GC statements, how specific exactly would I have to be about potential threats? The specifics of my reasoning and employment are somewhat sensitive/law enforcement related, so if the above information is too vague is there someone who I can contact to discuss this with? I tried finding the answer myself, and also tried answering some of it through my employer, but apparently my search skills are not up to par and nobody so far is very familiar with the process, and I don't want to start shooting off random PM's. I do have passive support through my employer, if that helps. All of that aside, is there any current need for a good test case in LA county?
