Default Need recommendations on backpack to store pistol & laptop

I work in IT, so everywhere I go, I have my laptop and some computer crap. I have a Swiss Gear backpack that holds the laptop (15") well, but the side zippers are not designed so that they lock together. I want to be able to remove my magazine from my pistol, put the pistol in one side, lock the zipper together, put a few loaded mags in another side, lock those zippers. I think a backpack that is a tactical style would be cool. But it really must be able to hold my laptop properly. I don't need crazy padding, it's a work laptop, but it just has to hold it comfortably for me. Oh, I ride a motorcycle a lot, so that needs to be taken in to account.

So any recommendations? Perhaps the top manufacturers of backpacks like this, I could look at their site? Lemme know.

Thanks!

Instead of finding a tactical backpack that works with your laptop, either store the gun+magazine in a separate laptop sleeve (they don't need to be separated) or modify your existing backpack so you can lock it. I'd go with the $20 padded laptop sleeve and modify that (if necessary) so you can put a tiny combination lock on it - done.

I just ran into a similar situation recently. I also work in IT and wanted something I could carry my laptop and/or iPad (lighter and easier to carry instead of my 13" Dell laptop these days), and I was looking at all sorts of messenger bags that had a compartment specifically for a concealed gun (unloaded of course) and could still lock and look classy for my business field,

I looked at Maxpedition since they had some good bags with dividers and velcro panels where a holster or gun strap could attach to. However, they were all really expensive and still had that 'tactical' feel & look to it, and I wanted something more subtle.

I then found the perfect laptop bag in one of our other offices sitting in storage, and it looked perfect. It was a smaller bag that had 2 separate laptop sections in it, so you could carry a laptop in either padded compartment. Plus, the zippers on both compartments were lockable, where they had padlock loops on them so when the zippers came together you could put a padlock around the overlapping loops (similar to how you lock a suitcase when traveling). My 13" laptop fit perfectly in there on one side. On the other side, my LC9 and a couple of mags fit in there perfectly since they're narrow & light, and don't make the bag bulge out at all. The only thing I changed was the shoulder strap to a better one, but that's it.

As somebody mentioned earlier, look into laptop-specific backpacks as they are usually lockable, padded, and aw more discreet looking.

The Brain Bag with a pair of Vertical Brain Cells. The Brain cell is a suspension type sub-pack with corrugated polymer covered with some tough nylon specifically for your laptop/iPad and the smaller ones hold a pistol very nicely. It also deletes the visible profile of a pistol. The Brain bag has several other exterior pouches which hold mags/knife/goodies very nicely and discreetly. It's not a purpose built gun bag, it's a purpose built laptop pack with extra heavy duty construction and works well. It's what I use.

If you're stuck on a messenger type bag, then the ID or the Imago are good options with a Cache bag to hold the pistol. There's no fast way to draw from any of the above but it does keep the pistol handy for those occasions when you have a few seconds to decide to pull it out or not. For me it's mostly a way to keep a pistol on me and be extra discreet about it.

I use this bag: http://www.511tactical.com/All-Produ...enger-Bag.html

You'll need to use a cable type lock to make it CADOJ legit but it's super EZ

Lotsa hidden pockets to forget where things are at, too.

or this

Thanks for the info, not quite what I had envisioned though
Condor had a backpack that looked perfect. 5.11 had one too. I called both and they said neither of them have zippers that come together. They each have the strings on the zippers, so you can put a lock through the strings, but it's weak I'd say. You could prob separate the zippers apart, put ur finger in, push hard and find the trigger. perhaps a magician could drop 1 round in there, wiggle it in and find the trigger.

CONDOR

5.11 TACTICAL

What I wanted was those zippers that can close together and u put a tiny lock in.

I think at the end of the day, I'll get the backpack that works best for me and just put my pistol in one of these small padded cases, lock that, then be covered.
I had this little case for a Colt .38spl I have, but with some effort my XD 9mm fits. I dont believe my mags have to be locked, even with ammo in them, so i can toss them in the compartment. The firearm locked with a padlock as shown in red, no mag in it, no ammo in the chamber, just the firearm solo locked.

::EDIT:: Buster1960, I'll check it out, thanks.

Coronado leather used to make a really nice backpack designed to carry a concealed weapon and laptop. I wanted to get one for the wife for xmas but they stopped making it. I called and asked about it and they said if there was enough interest, they may start making it again.
