Default OC/LB: Any recommendations on a good gunsmith to check Headspace

A buddy I served with gave me an old Garrand as a gift when he transfered. I'm new to the OC/LB area and need help on recommendations where to find a good local smith to check it. My last duty station I got the headspace checked for $10 bucks on a C&R rifle but that was a few years ago and not in California. Just want to know what an acceptable price here is as well.

Don't have direct experience getting something headspaced there but bolsa gunsmithing comes to mind as someone who is likely familiar with garands, I have seen them for sale there several times.

Headspacing (How to) - by Ericc (garandgear.com)

Head Space (Scotch tape method)

Quote:
douglas34474:

Strip the bolts and try to chamber, by hand, a GI cartridge case.

If the round will just start to close you're OK.

If the bolt closes with ease, place a small piece of Scotch tape to the back of the cartridge case head. If you can put two pieces of tape on the case and still have the bolt close, you need to have the rifle checked.

Remember, you fire cartridges, not head space gauges.

That aught to do it.

Has your buddy fired it in the past? If so was there an issue with headspace? If you were in my area I would do it for free.

Thanks for the advice. I gave him a call and said he could do it in the same day. I'll let everyone know how the service and experience goes.
