Default Gunsmith Schools

Hello all,

I am looking to start gunsmithing in the Northern California area. I have 5 years of experience working as an armorer in the U.S. Marines, but I want to get some training with other weapons systems. Does anyone have any recommendations for training/schools in the Northern California area or online?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply Milspec. I would love to go to Lassen's gunsmithing school but I work full time and would be able to. I will check out some manufacturers for some courses though.

Yes, Lassen Community College has summer gunsmithing classes. they are one week in duration except for TIG welding, Machine shop and knife making. Those are 2 week classes. I think they offer 16 different summer classes. Everything from caustic bluing to counter sniper rifles to full autos. I suggest checking it out. I did 6 classes this summer and I am attending the 2 year program. Its the real deal.

FYI there is a BIG State of California prison in Susanville ..... since you got Mil XP plus armorer you could get a job there while going to Lassen ... just food for thought.

It's not as good as Lassen. American Gunsmithing Institute http://www.americangunsmith.com/ They have a great DVD program if you have mechanical & problem solving skills.

I'm taking the AGI course right now. The course is instructed by the guy that taught at Lassen for years, Bob Dunlap was quitting teaching and starting up his own company. that was the motivation for the course.

I'm currently only a short way into the course and I've learned a lot more than I really expected in a very short time. It ain't cheap but if you can't go to Colorado and you want to work on guns, there are very few other alternatives.

Bob Dunlap is a genius. My current teachers were taught under him.

How much does the complete AGI Course go for? Will you get a Certificate after completion??

It varies according to sales, and you do not get a certificate. The DVD series is pretty good though.

What weapon systems are you interested in?

If you sign up for one of their Armorer courses or Gunsmithing courses you will receive a certificate. I do know there is the professional Gunsmithing course level 1 and 2. Level 1 is $5000 and level 2 is $7000. If you want to combine the two levels there is the master Gunsmithing course which runs $8000. And you want to take it to the next level there is an enhanced master Gunsmithing course for $11,000, which includes about $3000 worth of Gunsmithing tools to start you up.

Everything is video based and you will test out to receive your certificate. Hope this helped.

I went the master gunsmithing course myself

its Mostly worth it

the screw drivers are cheap half the stuff comes from harbor freight and you could purchase all the tools for less. BUT they do send some additional information *which i have not read or looked at yet) about starting and running your buisness that should pay for itself when i start up.

BTW there customer service is top notch

when you think about buying look at the prices for christmas etc. and just tell them that price and free shipping its what i did and saved 2k on the master gunsmithing price (if you pay it all at once)

don't just accept the price right off the top bargin it pays for the tools
