I'm glad to see interest in the course. This is the first of many medical courses to be offered by TASC. I'm Alex Loegering, the Medical Instructor for TASC who developed the course from my training and first hand experience as a US Navy Corpsman from Iraq to Afghanistan.

The skills offered in this course are the bare necessities needed in an active shooter environment and a great foundation for many other real life scenarios from mowing the lawn to full scale combat.

I hope to see many of the local TASC regulars and, visiting enthusiasts for this and future planned classes.

Alex Loegering

I can't make this class, but I am definitely interested! It would be great to learn more about real world wound treatment from one who has been there and knows. Please update when your next class dates are available and thanks for your service.

I'm interested in this class. I'm a beginner with no medical training, would the class be appropriate for my level?

Biff..., You are exactly who I'm looking for to take this course. It's an entry level gunshot wound and hemorrhage (bleeding) control class for people with little to no medical experience, or a refresher for those who have been out of the field and have grown a little rusty. There will be more advanced courses offered soon. I suggest using this course to get a head start if you're interested in following on.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Looks like a great class. I know for me I would like to put together a medical bag for the range that would allow one to manage a serious gun shot wound. Perhaps even fit it in a ammo can. Do you have such a list or a pre-packaged kit you can suggest?

AAShooter,

I'd love to see you at the course, if just for a refresher. Your scenario is exactly what this course is geared toward, learning how to deal with that type of emergency before licensed medical professionals can arrive and take over. At the end of the course I will be going over the setups and bags I've run previously and what I currently carry in the car and in the garage to help get the students thinking about what would be the best setup for them.

I can tell you some of the primary things you'll be interested in carrying:

-Gauze 4x4 - The stacked bulk 4x4s are perfect for wound packing, kerlix rolls are difficult to work with and will unroll all over the ground when you don't want them to.
-Pressure Bandages and Ace Wraps - To secure everything and provide direct pressure. The kinds with velcro are handy for tying up those loose ends.
-Duct Tape - It doesn't stick well to bloody and sweaty skin but will stick to the ace wraps and itself like no other.
-Cling Wrap - From the kitchen. Wrap some around an empty toilet paper or paper towel roll.
-Tourniquets - Just in case.

That's a basic ammo-can sized load out that should see you through most things you may see at the range. In the course I'll be teaching how to best apply each item here and how to prepare some of the home made ones. You'll have a chance to see a few commercially offered items as well as medical bags and pouches that can go well stashed near the door, set up on a chest rig or tossed in your car or a range bag.

I'm developing an advanced medical course that will go deeper into emergency trauma interventions to be offered early next year as well. I hope I've been able to answer your question but I highly suggest coming to the course to get some good hands-on experience. At the very least get a buddy and practice bandaging him up before putting the supplies away.

Where are you located? I'm from Sonoma County originally and visit from time to time. If you're interested and can get enough people interested I'm sure I can work a trip up around giving a course. Let Stan or I know and we'll see what we can do.

Active Duty within 6 months of deployment contact me for information on medical courses! I will not charge you to learn how to protect those actively protecting our freedoms in harms way. I've done my time, you're there now, learn to take care of each other!

If anyone following this thread and course are interested in a course offered in thir specific area please let Stan or I know. I am more than willing to take my experience and knowledge within reasonable distances from the IE area. If you have a venue and students, I will come. I believe that everyone should have this knowledge. If I'm at a shooting range and someone NDs into my thigh and severs my femoral, I want to know that there's at least 1 responsible patron who knows how to deal with the situation.

For any of you with the knowledge, if such situation arises, know that the shoulder bag just behind my Pelican cases is my med bag and there are ample supplies in it to take care of 2 severe trauma patients!

Please let us know if you've got 6 people or more interested in a course in a specific area and keep your eyes on The Academy of Saint Crispian and CalGuns to find future classes and courses.

See you on Sunday!

Default Thank You For Coming!

I just wanted to thank those of you who made it to our course yesterday. I had a great time teaching you. After the technical difficulty in the beginning, I think we settled in for a very productive and fun course. I hope all of you were able to take something away. Just giving the course allowed me to see where I could improve it and you gave me some good ideas in the critiques, so thank you for that. The next group will benefit from your work and provide their own input, and so the cycle continues.

For those of you who weren't able to make it, I hope that you'll be able to join us on our next outing. We're locking on classrooms right now and are planning on coming down to the Chino area on the 15th of December, as well as ASR again on the 2nd. And keep your eyes open for the advanced course offerings we'll be unveiling after the New Year. If there's anything specific that you're interested in seeing, please let me know and I'll see what I can do about working it into one of the them.

Huntington/Fountain Valley location is now active!

CalGuns, great to see everyone at Costa Mesa, I was able to snag a pair of flow charts and AR laws to keep in my Pelican case, as well as meet some great people interested in the medical courses.
Because of the interest, I was able to lock on Marutani Dojo, in Fountain Valley, for an Essential Trauma Management course on the 6th! I'm taking 12 students for this course and 6 of them have already been filled through the Dojo. Please visit www.stcrispian.com if you're interested in signing up for this course (EMT-FR and 06DEC12 for the course and dates). We'll be working on getting more courses in Huntington and are still on the schedule for the 15th in Chino. I know December's not the easiest time to schedule things but we've got 3 courses, tomorrow at ASR, the 6th in Huntington and the 15th in Chino to help you guys out.

Also, we'll be exhibiting again at the Del Mar Gun Show on the 8th and 9th. If you're in the area and are interested in bringing the course to you, please stop by our booth there.

v/r
