This... for practie who cares if you risk running into a FTE/FTF every 2k rounds at the range but save $200..

But if this rifle is possible going to be a HD weapon then Id run the good stuff to make sure it runs flawless and you can trust your life than get a bunch of FTF/FTE and think its the ammo and come to find out in a HD situation its the gun and all you get is a click..

A real shtf rifle, ak47. My Cmmg ar-15 jams on steel ammo but functions flawlessly on brass. Ak47, has fired everything i put in it. No malfunctions, no jams.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but "1/7" refers to one full spin of the bullet in the barrel as it's shot out, all within 7 inches; 1/8 would be one spin in 8 inches, and so on. A 1/7 twist is considered a "fast twist" while on the other end a 1/9 twist is considered a slower one. Military 'spec rifles like the Colt M4 have a 1/7 twist, guns like the Ruger SR 556 that cater to the civilian crowd have a 1/9 twist. The faster twist will help to stabilize a heaver grain bullet and should increase accuracy. A typical round for an AR15 is about 55 grain, although I have seen grain-weights from 40 all the way to 70 something. There's a guideline that people have thrown around in here, which says that a 1/7 fast twist can shoot heavier bullets with accuracy, but lighter bullets might be "overspun" and (I'm not sure what can happen with that, lol). Meanwhile, a slower 1/9 twist may not be able to spin a heavier bullet enough, which would reduce accuracy and cause a bullet to "key hole" its target. All in all I've read that a 1/8 twist is the best of both worlds.

Again, I'm a complete noob so someone correct me if I'm wrong. There's a thread around here somewhere talking about this in detail, and then there's also google too. Did you know that the earlier M16's had like, 1/14 twists or something?

I think the original m16s were 1in12. Fine for 55gr or less

It just looks like a lot better deal. The Rguns rifle I ordered is non-chrome lined the PSA is chrome lined which I like and it comes with a rear sight. The PSA is a 1/7 twist and the Rguns is a 1/9 twist barrel.. what is the difference just curious. I've seen some people saying that PSA's quality is on par or close to Colt..I've seen people say they have run over 1,500 rounds of steel cased before they have gotten a jam with it.

I'm seeing a lot of people saying good things about PSA. What do you all think about this?
Dude, don't return it just because of us! Take all the 'advice' you get here with a big grain of salt. Chances are very good your rifle will be great and will shoot steel case ammo a lot better than a Noveske and you'll be happy with it. A 1:9 twist cro-moly barrel is fine, you won't notice any difference.

But... get that AK ASAP!

Once a gun DROS' it belongs to someone else, so I wouldn't worry about the next serial-rifle killer using your old gun to commit crimes. Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong. And...is there really a limit to long gun purchases? I know about the one for handguns, however I was under the impression that you can DROS long guns till you turn blue in the face. If it helps, I bought/DROS'ed the Ruger and the Colt AR's within days of each other...

Cool

Still doing "research" I see.

Complicated mechanical devices may not be your thing.

Maybe stick to political videos.

Guns are still more important.

Dros is a california thing, if your location "WA" is correct then I don't think anyone here would expect you to know it anyways.

I joined because I was trying to sell a gun and I was a noob. I was looking for free places to sell my gun online from a google search and Calguns popped up. I had never sold one before and I thought this would be a good place. I was hoping that someone would just google the gun I was selling and they would see my add on here. I was also willing to sell to people in California. I was getting a lot of offers for trades but not anyone wanted to buy my gun for the price I wanted. So I put it up on Armslist and ended up selling it to someone near me. It was a ruger 10/22 with a kit on it to make it look like a HK G36 it came with a couple mags a clone EOtech and some ammo.

Then I bought that M4 and got that email, so sense this was the only gun forum I had signed up for I thought it would be as good a place as any to get my questions answered...I used to live in Cali when I was younger though...:/ Not sure if they have a WA gun forum.

Dude, citing second-hand research and regurgitated theories does not make you wise.

The preaching about why you're buying a gun does not make sense in this forum, and I don't think it's the place for it. Did it ever occur to you that maybe you just want to buy a gun?

When did I say I was wise? I chose those videos because I know from my own research they are true.

I'm not preaching just defending the reasons why I want a gun. If I feel the need to inform some people along the way it shouldn't be a big deal. People can choose to read what they want. I did say I "bought an M4 for SHTF" in the title...so it only makes sense that "SOME" SHTF scenarios would be talked about. I want an AR 15 that can handle multiple different scenarios.

We all buys guns for SHTF, we just don't talk about it.

Wife: why did you buy another gun?
Me: for SHTF of course!

political video aside...

if you really need an affordable SHTF rifle, a Kel-Tec SU-16CA is a good choice.

- cheap (around 500)
- reasonable accuracy (around 2MOA with proper ammo and a good bipod)
- reliable (takes Russian steel ammo)
- Use most AR mags.
- light and easily break down for transportation.
- Legal in all states
- accepts muzzle brakes and bayonets (If you think that you would need one lol)
- accepts AR style stock and pistol grip

I only wish they made a .308 version, which should be qualified under Jeff Cooper's Scout rifle standard.

Shoot lots of steel at the range, and some brass. Store as much brass as you can afford, and supplement with steel, if necessary.

Don't forget that an AR is just a bunch of parts put together. you can swap barrels easy, so if that $140 barrel on there ever fails, you are just $200 away from a new barrel.

Forget about returning the gun. Just shoot it, break it, fix it, repeat!

thanks for the recommendation but I still want an AR. Personally I think the Kel-tec is kinda ugly no offense. I think M4's look bad ***.

I know but I really just need a rifle that I KNOW will shoot steel. I cant really afford brass right now. Plus it being my SHTF rifle I have to know it will shoot steel reliably. As far as I know there are other rifles that are proven when it comes to steel...

Its hard to decide but if I return it I'm thinking about getting this.
