No disrespect to BDAP. Changed to fit my perspective.

My academy was a live in run like boot camp. Reveille, PT, close order drill and then 30 minutes for breakfast (if you were lucky) and then classes all day into the evening with 30 minutes for lunch and dinner. During class they would toss your bunk, which had to be made military style, and search your rooms for contraband (food and drinks) After the first day we had two guys drop out saying that if they wanted this, they would have stayed in the Army.

We started with 150 and graduated 89. We lost one on day 1, and one in week 15 of 16.
August 4, 1978 to December 1, 1978. LASD Class 190. All Deputy Sheriffs, no outside agencies. NEVER QUIT!

Very true and no disrespect taken. Once the academy is out of the way, the journey really begins.

As if tac staff ever needs and excuse to give a memo!
![]() Of course in my class some guys I think came naturally issued with a few extra memos to their name. Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2

Take it day by day... week by week. 26 weeks goes by very fast... trust me.
Another thing... at least you didn't start out with 14 recruits in your class. That's basically one on one attention with the lovely tac staff. "Try blending it".... YEAH RIGHT.... |

Good job bojack. I'm in the academy too. Were 45 deep right now with one loss. It's all mental. Don't let Ur mind defeat u. When it hurts change Ur mind set and find Ur happy place. When push comes to shove push harder. Good luck stay Sharp.

You will lose more before the end comes. Just remember, you only have to stick out for a few more months, then it's all over with and you have your whole career ahead of you. I remember a couple of days during PT, vomiting while trying to run. All I could do was tell myself, "never give up.....keep going until they order me to stop." Unfortunately the DI who made me stop waited until my shoes and socks were soaked with barf.

I just recently graduated and i can tell you that its all worth it...half the battle is just showing up everyday. Show up and meet the standard. Always remember ppl are always watching and judging you. You never know when you will meet these people again...and that includes your academy teammates...dont be an *** to any of them because they could be your boss one day. The best quote i ever heard about academy life was, "It's the most fun you'll never want to have again."

Good luck with your academy BoJack. I have orientation this week, and hopefully they will allow me in the academy. From what all of you have described, it sounds like hell; especially if a marine says the academy is hard.

He probably doesn't have the time to log on, let alone sleep and breathe.
![]() Too busy checking for lint on his uniform, studying and shining those shoes/boots. |
