Default New Dug Relic Restoration Project.... Merwin Hulbert 44 (a bit rusty)

Locked in my next electrolysis project today... Got Im the winning bid on this Merwin Hulbert 44 antique

I know nothing about these guns... But I kind of like the idea of having an old cowboy 44

And I wanted to do a revolver electeolysis next ... So, the price was right and the stars aligned

Cool. I'll be checking this out too.

I expect it'll be harder to get a badly rusted revolver to work than a pistol.

It's going to be interesting to see if you can make this one functional.

Your story about that Merwin and Hulbert was what cinched me buying this one..... I wanted it... but I was on the fence a little with the price tag...

I bought the 44 off of gunbroker..... the 1911 was from a guy on thehighroad...

There is a prussian revolver that I would LOVE to do on gunbroker right now... as well as a few lever action rifles, but my toy funds are a bit low and the price on relics is a bit high....

I've reached out to the dug gun museum in cody to see if I can work with them on some of their collection.... but I don't know if its the sort of thing they would be into.

There is also a universal M1 carbine here on calguns that I would like to give some love.... but its not very complete.

I still need to track down my rusty uzi project.... I lost the contact info for the transfer dealer who was storing it for me...

When you get the side plate off. the only thing you have to do is rotate the hand back on to the side of the hammer, the hammer will lift out. The two cross screws above the trigger guard, one on each side, the left side screw is the cylinder stop, right side screw is the trigger. The loading gate is held in by a screw and a spring behind the hammer. This will get you all the way dissembled. I have the same gun, I can take apart if you want pictures. The biggest problem you will have is the base pin and extractor they require complicated machining.

I was hoping that it would stay under $100, but it got a bit competitive at the end

side plate is off, and I'm zapping the hammer right now
