Not at all. It's actually fun with a pump. The bigger question is what is the magazine capacity? It it is only 3-4 rds, then maybe a bit tough. But if it is 7-8rd, then you are good to go. My buddy still uses his 870 and does just fine.

I would say that since it is your first time, sure go for it with the eotech.
However, even the simplist bead sight will work just fine. If you start shooting regularly, more than likely you'll be ditching the reddot. With an optic on a shotgun, you are put in an "Open" race gun class. Most people start in a simpler class. But back to my original statement, bring what you have and you will see what works and what doesn't. My first match: 16" Dissapator with a 4x optic and a bullet button, Winchester 1300, XD40 with 10rd mags. FUN AS HELL. However, I have now adjusted my gear accordingly. |

Rob Melhorn MAY still do it locally. Other than that, the only other resources are C-RUMS and Accurate Iron.
That was a great match BTW! Ton of new people. And I'm sure you guys enjoyed the spinning texas star guarded by double swinging no shoots as much as i did! |

That double swinging no shoot Texas star was one of the most miserable/frustrating experiences I have ever had. Just because the bottom plate is easily accessible does not make it a good idea to take it first lol. Ya learn something new everyday I guess, that thing was really moving

Sorry for the long delay guys.
I crashed my confuser a while back and am still in the process of getting everything back together. I just finished the scores and they should be up on the web site within a couple of hours. Thanks for your patience in this matter and keep an eye out for next months stages. I got something cooking that will either excite you or kill you ( Ironman jungle run) ![]()

The heat must have got to me because I mounted my GoPro but forgot to turn it on! Whoops.
Trust me, you'll definitely want to shoot it the next time Sammy does it. That whole setting is awesome, it felt like I was shooting a major match stage. |

I was browsing this section and am interested in attending a match. Would this be good for a first time match participant? Looking for some guidance on what Ill need and what I need to do. I have a bullet buttoned rifle and a pistol, no shotgun.

New people are starting all the time, especially last month when there were 15 or so! Having said that, I think you'll want to start with the Action Pistol match first since you don't have any match experience. This will allow you to build some experience with safety protocols, range commands and running around with loaded guns. There is a sticky thread in this forum titled 'What you need to get started shooting tactical type matches' that has a lot of relevant information in it. Hope this helps.
The Piru Action Pistol match announcements are also made in this forum and listed on their website: http://www.deadwoodboys.org/ Last edited by SuperSet; 06-21-2012 at 6:34 AM.. Reason: Added AP link |

Action Pistol is a great way to start. This Saturday would be a good day.
Actually, I'll be staying after the match to sight in my 3-gun rifle (again, yet another change in my gear) if you would like to join me. Bring whatever you have and I can show you, we can discuss some gear options. PM me if you are interested in the action pistol match as you can join in my squad and I can explain details (mainly safety) and give you direction. |

I always screw up the dates.
Go to Deadwood Boys, and look for the Action Pistol dates. Don't be fooled by the Cowboy shoots. The Action Pistol is for us "non" six shooters. http://www.deadwoodboys.org/ (Nothing against the six shooters, looks like fun, just not my cup of tea). |

After being rained out practically each match last winter, it is nice the weather has been cooperating this summer.
August 19th forecast is the high 80's. ![]() I heard the Action Pistol match on Saturday was miserable for those that were brave enough to go. |

I went to the AP match and you're right, it was Africa hot! 80s is downright chilly compared to last weekend. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town this weekend so for you guys that make it, you may see the new incline wall for the first time. It should make a helluva addition to the jungle run.

I'll be attending this August's match as a first timer. never did any type of competitive shooting so it'll be interesting to say the least.
A buddy of mine did it as a first timer last month and said that everyone was really friendly so that definately makes me feel a lot more comfortable. Very excited. I had some extra time after work the last two weeks and make some custom kydex holsters for all my gear. Hopefully I got it right and it'll work properly! See you guys this Sunday. Will |
