I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question but can't the admins of this site send out a mass email or PM to all 106534 registered users urging them to sign the online petition, write letters/emails and donate money? 106534 registered users and only slightly more than 5000 people have used the link on the stopsb249.org website. Not using the member list seems like a waste of resources. Even if it only gets a handful of people to contribute it's better than nothing. When I was just a lurker and right up until the point I started posting I had only read the handgun and centerfire rifle forums. Had I not wandered into the 2A forum in early July simply out of curiosity I wouldn't even know any of this was going on. There may be other people out there that don't come here often or don't know about SB 249 but would be interested in helping in some way.

It's true enough that anti-gun politicians care nothing for the truth and only want to "ban all guns".

But, in this battle, knowing the truth is more, much more, than simply "interesting". We are always fighting for the minds of our fellow citizens. When talking to people who get all of their information off of the TV's nightly news, it is vital to be in a position to give them the facts about what actually happens in diabolic events like the shootings in Aurora, Colorado. Being prepared to counteract left-wing media anti-gun propaganda everywhere we can - is always important!

By the way, not every politician is oblivious to the truth. As SB249 works its way through the legislature, there are a precious few politicians who "may" be persuaded to our side by the truth of what really happened, and that may be enough.

More OT...I love that the National Anthem is being sung as a traditional song and not some R&B, Jazz, Rock, or even Pop song. Not that I have anything against those, but I just haven't heard it like this since I was a kid.

I've noticed that not everyone goes to the 2A sub-forum, and that there appears to be a number of people unaware of SB 249 and the whole Amazon issue as well.

I've also seen some good signatures here calling attention to these two items. Perhaps we can all add the www.shop42a.com and http://stopsb249.org/ link to our signatures to call more attention to these important items for those who don't visit this section of Calguns. Just a suggestion.

So you think its perfectly ok to discuss this bill in public when so many armchair lawyers are finding holes that could be problems for the authors. Then because the authors are reading too, they amend the bills and close the holes. Id prefer these discussions about 249 were deleted the second they came up so the idiots in Sac continue creating flawed legislation that can be sidestepped. Rather than our members working for Yee amd writing the bill as airtight as possible for him.

If this makes it to the floor of the legislature, it would be nice if one of the pro 2A lawmakers would bring in some slides comparing BB equipped rifles and rifles like Mini-14s/M1 carbines/M1as, and ask what the effective difference is between such rifles and so called "assault weapons". They both effectively have detachable magazines, one just looks scarier than the other (and I think Socom M1As and the newer Mini-14s actually look pretty scary too).

Hardly. In my short time as a contributor, I've never seen a "contibutor" who thinks they are better than others on CGN because they contribute.

I don't care if someone contributes cash to CGN, I care about what knowledge/experience/enthusiasm they bring to this forum.

Quite a few, I look at it this way, we are all passionate about guns and they are more than just a firearm (except the trolls). We are being attacked on a constant basis and we need to stick together. Do we disagree sometimes, yes of course we do. Do some people on this forum rub others the wrong way, yeah that is pretty obvious; however, I think everyone on this forum (except the trolls) are better than that and I prefer all of you to the nazi socialists that want to take our freedoms away. We all know what will happen if they take away the 2A...all the other amendments will disappear.

Exactly.

I contribute to CGN because I learned a lot about California's laws here and I enjoy the community.

I contribute to CGF because they fight the legal battle for us.

I contribute to the NRA because they take the fight to the Federal Government.

The CGN membership numbers are artificial and not representative of appliable force.

I didn't know of the amazon thing. I was going to order an iPad for my sister today, but I didn't really see the rush since it was the weekend. Good thing I read this first.

What Kes had to say about that in the oak thread:

Quote:
Ah yes, the 'Flyergate' matter.
Seriously, that's your issue?

As part of the efforts to stop SB 249 the volunteers of the Calguns Community Chapters, the 'C3', printed up flyers based on the existing ones for distribution.
Rather than trying to 'reinvent the wheel' and after getting no response to emails asking for expressed permission on top of the posted 'use these to get the message out' much of the existing design and verbiage was carried over to the new flyer meaning these could be in gun stores, shooting ranges and handed out to the public by volunteers that much faster.
Thousands of these were printed, distributed and handed out in the week prior to the first vote on SB 249 and thousands after the vote.

Because this effort was done by Calguns.net volunteers and because were professionally printed up in full color on high gloss paper paid for entirely by Calguns.net when these went to the printer for the rush job the Calguns.net logo was put on them along with the CGF logo and a url posted to a page explaining the issue and directing people to go to www.stopsb249.org to get involved and take action.

Apparently this is the 'theft' that we're, or I, am responsible for.
Unless you were referencing something else?

Nope.

You contribute by simply being here.

You created C3? I didn't know that. I appreciate it.

I hope the foundation itself is in better shape than the network... have to say I'm a little concerned by the attitudes.

I agree with mosinnagant, you contribute your time which sometimes is worth more than just $$. Also, on CGF page I see your pict all over it with numerous updates, yes you do contribute and in a positive way.

Gentlemen, Brandon is entitled to his opinion just as everyone else is, it's his right and prerogative to feel as he does.

That however is not the pressing issue here, SB249 is so lets focus on what is important.

He is a necessary evil.
He incites relevant debate rather than the normal ranting we do.

I still think he is a long time member on a separate account haha.

Don't blame them until they understand. I got suckered into it once. Many of them probably think that their dollars are going to useful gun rights work.

People are quite regularly confused by the difference between CGN and CGF. I imagine that confusion explains a large amount of the contributors. Internet hosting isn't free but it sure as heck doesn't cost much more than 16 ads at the top and 3 at the bottom of my page right now. I love capitalism as much as the next guy but grabbing donations for personal profit from people who think their dollars are going to a good cause is exactly as Brandon says... Weak.

There's nothing wrong with profiting from the work involved in running a forum, but profiting off the backs of those who think they are donating to a charitable cause is disingenuous at best and fraudulent at the worst. A responsible forum owner would make it clear enough that we don't have people often posting about their pride in helping the gun rights movement by becoming contributors.

ETA: Kestryll posted while I was typing my response. He's correct that we should move back to the subject of the thread and I apologize for my continued departure from the subject matter.

There is a reason why this is stated prominently and in bold on the Contributor page:
Please note that CGN is separate from CGF and that CGN Contributorships are not tax-deductible
and why when people have contacted me about not reading it and making a mistake I have offered to refund their money.

We now return you to our thread, already in progress..
