You want to hunt without a hunting license? You can't.

Any species that is regulated by the Fish & Game requires hunting license and tags, regardless if it's within private land or public.

You can't hunt anything "wild" without a license. You can shoot livestock, such as pigs that are owned and domestically raised without a license I.E. Big Horn Canyon Ranch...

You can hunt hogs at bighorn canyon ranch without a hunting license and other non native species too. And you can hunt rattlesnakes anywhere in the state without a fishing license.

Big Horn Canyon Ranch is pretty much your only option without a lic.

$45 for a hunting license.

$30 for a deer tag.

Free hunting on public land for deer, etc.

$75 is prolly about as cheap as it gets, you just gotta be willing to do some leg work.

Take a hunters safety course and get your license. You can ask the instructor where to hunt or check out DFG.com.

why is it that so many of these threads never get a reply by the OP? They ask 1 question and then we never see them again....

First question should have been; Do you have a .223? If yes, proceed. If no, go get one cuz you cant hunt in CA without it

So that wild boar meat will cost you about $45.00 a lb and deer runs about $65.00 a lb when it's all said and done?

Yeah, quick way to turn yourself off from hunting is to add up all the costs. Dont think about it that way, just HUNT

For folks that have "hunted" big horn canyon ranch, do you need an ID? passport? US citizen? This is the kind of hunting opportunity that could be GREAT for folks who do not live in free countries who are interested in a "once in a lifetime" hunting trip (who travel to CA for business, don't earn the income to go to africa, etc)

Would a passport be acceptable if all they need is ID? and does it need to be a US passport?

All you need is $350 US cash.

Don't listen to these guys. If you wanna hunt really cheap and without a license, take up road hunting and spotlighting. If you don't end up in prision, it's not going to be too expensive. Of course, real hunters will just call you a poacher and report you if they see you. But, you wanted cheap and no license instead of legal and real hunting. If you just want to shoot an animal and dont want the real hunting experience where not filling tags is normal, just go buy an animal, tie it to a tree and shoot it.
