Unlike my other projects, this one will not get a refinished stock, and all of the parts that are put into it will be completely reversible. Just love how this thing sits in the hands! First SKS, and will not be the last.
![]() ![]() ![]() http://www.tech-sights.com/sks.htm and http://www.murraysguns.com/sksown.htm are on their way! Cheers. |

Thanks all!
Update: Tech sights came in the mail today.....an hour after I got back from the range. It shot VERY well. I tried it at 50 yards, and grouped about 100 rounds in the black without thinking too much. Fired 10 rounds at a silhouette of a pig at 200 yards and hit it twice, as well ![]() Bad news: I was manipulating the safety from "on" to "off" and it ****in SNAPPED OFF! The bolt was in battery, round was chambered, all was going well, flipped it down and it broke off. Never thought an SKS' safety would crumble like that. Thank god replacements are only like $9. |

![]() ![]() Love this stock. Timbersmith rocks. Took a little sanding to make everything fit well, but it is 1000x better fitting than the original stock, and since I have larger hands, accomodates for a fatter left hand grip. Call me bubba if you want, but I kind of UN-BUBBA'd this rifle by putting a better stock on it. Cheers. |

Looks pretty cool. Keep the old stock for that if in the future you decide to sell it. Then you could sell separately the Timber stock. I personally don't think it is a bubba because you still have the original stock. You are the one that is going to enjoy shooting it not the other shooter. To me a bubba is when one butchers a rifle. Like cutting off the metal parts and trying to make it look like an American "black gun". I also think it would still look a little better with the bayo still attached. That's just me though. Enjoy it!!

I took the bayo off for two reasons:
1) I heard that having it on the barrel affects accuracy via harmoic distortion. 2) There is not a cut on the Timbersmith to accompany a bayo, as far as I can see. Definitely keeping the original stock, as it is a pretty nice one. Thanks for your thoughts! YUTYUT |

CORRECTION: It looks like there is a "2" there.
Moar: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I wasn't too sure about the ergonomics of this stock before hand, but now I can liken it to 'shaking hands with your best friend'. By 'best friend', I mean "a woman's parts". Last edited by Hammertime; 05-27-2012 at 12:38 AM.. |

The accuracy of an SKS was checked by firing 3 rounds at a target and if it obtained sniper quality it was marked on the front of the front sight base with the number 1, with #2 and #3 as accuracy decreased.

Cool. I was going to look into different front sight posts, and that one looks legit. What about this one? http://www.keepshooting.com/ak47-dup...air-sight.html
Jarhead-Gotcha. So #2 is not bad I guess? What does your SKS have? |

I'm not trying to start a battle, but I don't think the number 1 has to do with accuracy. I'm not sure if anyone knows for sure, I have seen other theories and rumors but here's a good thread on it.

He might mean 10 in the fixed mag and one in the chamber?
RANGE REPORT: My room mate made a set of 3" steel plates and we set it up at 100 yards. For the record, these plates fell off of the swinging platform (looked ROUGHLYlike this originally... ![]() ![]() (the missing paint areas with no hole are .22lr, due to GSG5 savageness!!!!!!!) ![]() A lot of those holes are 5.56 believe it or not. He used 1/4" steel, and 5.56 went through it like butter. Kind of gives me more respect for the round, TBH. The 7.62, however, made indentations along with a hole, and the weighted targets would spin for a few seconds as opposed to 5.56 swinging back and forth. Gotta love energy and foot pounds. CHEEEAHHHH. Anyways, I was consistently spinning targets at 100 yards using iron sights. The stock made a huge clear-cut advantage over the original, and I recommend it to SKS patrons who don't mind changing the look of their rifle. Timbersmith's don't require permanent modification to your existing stock, either. Still have the original. At 50 yards, I blew out the 10 ring with ease. No need to church it up, but this dog will hunt. Last edited by Hammertime; 06-22-2012 at 12:12 AM.. |

Update:
Shot at 200 yards open sight at Angeles on Thursday, and was able to hit 8" steel plates that my roommate made with relative ease. They are 1/2", and 7.62 was STILL putting on some hurt haha! Awesome SKS! |

Politely, the above reference may or may not be law. Consult the calguns flow chart. The linked PDF is NOT law. It is a GUIDE and not to be quoted as law. It has at least one if not more significant typo in it, that makes a non listed at ar lower in one case an aw, and not to be trusted for further accuracy. Please consult the flow chart and cgf wiki for accuracy. I am not saying the quoted above is inaccurate. But at a minimum the listed lowers are wrong, and it may have more. Nice Sks!
