Cool XM16E1 Updated Pics *Retro Tacticool*

Scroll down For New Pics

I built this a few months ago. Its my first gun I've owned and took considerable amount of time convincing my parents(I'm 18) that if I get a gun it will not unlock itself and go walking around shooting people. In the mean time I did lots and lots of research and saved money.

Learning about Vietnam in my history class was my favorite part of the class. Also Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill. Apocalypse Now, and Platoon are all in my top 10 movies list. I guess all the exposure subliminally led me to a retro build lol.

I've only got 80 rnds through it,

Because I have been saving up for an AK build and now I only need the receiver. When the AK is done im gettin' a case of 5.56 and a case of 7.62 and hittin' the range hard!!

Everything is USGI Colt except the barrel(1/9 twist vs the 1/12 original barrels) which came with the kit, NDS lower, and Semi auto FCG.

Since it was a virgin barrel I tapped my FSB where the pins would go then set screwed in on, and parkerized the barrel.

And thanks guys, glad you like my rifle!

Hi Base45,

Looks great! Nice work. I've recently gotten an inch for a retro build. Can you direct me to this kit?

Thanks!

"PC Load letter WTF does that mean!" hahaha love that movie.

Im sorry to tell you but i think the kits dried up I havent seen any anywhere. Your best bet is to get a nodakspud upper and lower receiver and a1 parts from apex. Search around for a1 furniture. Build it like any other AR(I watched a a2 build video on youtube and built mine on my kitchen counter with a vise, Crescent wrench , punches, non marring hammer, and needle nose pliers. I recommend getting a AR armorers tool unlike me lol.

Nodak Spud Receivers

A1 Parts

Furniture

Nice build. Did you put an authentic USGI A1 rear sight on it or the cheap imported type? Did you have to dremel out the front of the handguards to get them to fit over the barrel?

I didn't go for the XM16E1 look but instead just an M16A1 like the one I had in Germany during the Cold War thirty something years ago.
Everything's USGI on mine. I got one of the surplus colt m16a1 kits before they became impossible to find, Soooooo glad I did. Everything fit like a glove on mine

Barska 4x20 scope and US M7 BOC bayonet.

I have plans to maybe paint the scope in a colt grey and when I get my blasting booth I will re-park the bayonet.

I now have a total of 580 rnds through her(no malfunctions).

And my new comp background

I thought I posted in the thread already, but that's easily one of the nicest looking ARs I've seen on Calguns.
