Default Sig sp 2022 .40 with 9mm barrel

Is it possible to replace a .40 barrel in the sp 2022 .40 with a 9mm barrel and use 9mm magazines? 9mm would save money from time to time..

I asked that same question too and the responce from my gun guys was that its not recommended for the 2022 but if you had the 226 or 229 was ok to do so... But it never hurts to ask your local gun store

I can drop a SP2009/SP2022 9mm barrel into my SP2340 upper (and use either 9mm or 40/357 mags) without any issues. SIg will tell you it is not recommended.

If I find a conversion barrel from FireDragon or Lonewolf I'll snatch it up.

There are conversion barrels out there - Firedragon used to make some but apparently doesn't any more. Occasionally someone will sell a 2022 with one of these.

I also have a 2022-40 and considered getting a 9mm barrel conversion kit. But for me the math for 'saving' doesn't justify move. $160 to $180 for barrel kit. What can I save on ammo for 9 vs 40? ...maybe $3 per 50? $180/3 =60. 60 x 50 means I'd have to shoot 3000 rounds to breakeven.

Would make sense if you shoot often. Added benefit of keeping your 40 barrel and spring on low-miles.

You would at minimum require a "conversion barrel", which is a barrel with the inside diameter of the 9mm barrel, but the outside diameter of the .40 barrel.

Using a non-conversion barrel is not recommended because the outer diameter of the 9mm barrel is smaller then the .40 barrel, so the gun won't lock into battery as tightly, meaning there is a increased chance of a out-of-battery discharge (ka-boom!).

If you want it to function 100% though you also need a new slide, as the extractor and breech face are different between the 9mm and .40 caliber guns. If you want to plink at the range, you are OK with just the conversion barrel and a 9mm magazine.

Not replacing the slide will simply cause an occasional FTF/FTE. There is no safety issue like there is with the barrel.

If you are going to use 9mm as a self-defense round in that gun, get a new slide.
