I actually liked the look of the JD, but thanks for making me not regret getting the JP instead.

Not entirely sure if my rifle belongs here or in the precision thread.

It started as a SDM-R clone, but like most of my rifles it's come to have a life of its own.

Lower: JD Machine USMC stamped
Upper: DPMS low profile tri rail
Barrel: WOA 20" SDM-R SS fluted 1:7 twist with four screw adjustable FSB and YHM muzzle brake
Rail: YHM diamond free float
Stock: Magpul PRS
Optic: TA11F 3.5x ACOG

Left to purchase: Geiselle SSA or SSA-E

Gonna try it out and sight it in Saturday. Can't wait!

I'm still waiting for word from you guys whether my 20" SDM-R inspired rifle belongs in here or the Precision thread. I think ACOG means it should go here. Comments?

SDM-R's have a place here, there are plenty of 20" SPR mk12's. It doesn't hurt to have two extra inches...just not two inches to short

Got it zeroed in today and was hitting steel from 200-600 yards today at Angeles. LOVE it!

Don't forget that it should only have an 18" barrel.

How about a little more proper SPR. With a few minor changes...

The irons are actually zeroed too!

Updated picture:

SSA-E installed, PRI Low Profile gas block installed, and it's sharing a Larue/Harris bipod with my AR308 precision rifle. I still think I want to grab a different muzzle brake....I was thinking one of Rainier's "Xtreme Tactical Compensator XTC"s.

Here's something I'm putting together right now. It's a LaRue Receiver set and Rail with a Rainier/Shilen Ultra Match SPR barrel, Surefire brake, LMT stock and grip, SSA trigger. Still need to pick up a few more goodies to finish it off. One of which will be a Sierra Precision grip if I can't get ahold of a LaRue A.P.E.G. soon. Perhaps Surefire canted irons as well.

The Scope is a Weaver 3-15 mil/mil EMDR. Mount system is something I was trying because I was planning to use the scope on a bolt action rifle as well, but that idea has been put to rest for the time being, so a LaRue LT-107 will replace it. I knew I should have held onto the one I had

Should I switch the stock assembly out for an A2? I think it would look better, but the SOPMOD just seems to make more sense.

Can someone clarify some information about a true 18" SPR barrel.

What is the barrel profile? Standard, Heavy, or does SPR have its own profile?

Is the gas system rifle length or midlength?

The barrel has its own profile and is generally rifle length gas as far as I can tell, although it seems a lot people choose to go with midlength gas. I didn't do a lot of research when looking for a barrel. I'd had my eye on the Shilen/Rainier Ultramatch for a while and snapped it up once they had it in stock. The thing is uncanny accurate when shooting 75 grain Hornady match reloads. I was on the short range at Pala with it yesterday and taking headshots on bowling pin plates at 200. The only misses were due to me sucking.
I was initially going to try and save some money and just get the WOA barrel, but the guys at Rainier flat out told me that the Shilen was hands down the better barrel. I don't regret it at all. Awesome, awesome barrel.

Thanks for the info! I just want to get the barrel right.

Is this the barrel you ended up buying?

http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=sho...roduct_id=2902

Edit: Looks like that SPR barrel is made from a Match Grade Wilson Blank, not a Shilen Blank.

Is yours a mid length gas system? Heres another barrel...
http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=sho...product_id=818

And a complete upper that looks worthy, even though it does not use the true SPR barrel.

That's the guy right there. Awesome barrel. I had considered the Wilson one, but I've cut corners on barrels before and wasn't happy, so I had to go with the Shilen. That's not to say Wilson aren't nice, but the barrel I replaced with this was a Wilson, and I wasn't completely happy with it. That's just my experience, though. It also wasn't an SPR barrel.
