Default CMP Special Picture Thread... post yours here!

FEDEX knocked on my door this morning. I'm very happy with it! Absolute bargain compared to a Springfield Inc. Pictures as promised...

I included a sticky kindly requesting a 5.8M (please, thank you, and ). I was tempted to ask for a 6.0M, but I didn't want to push my luck.

I haven't field stripped it yet. The trigger guard is on TIGHT!

Couple obvious peculiarities... widely spread (bent) front sight wings, no drawing numbers on the trigger guard.

Please post your pics here, too!

EDIT: After several coats of BLO...

Not a Rack Grade. A CMP Special Grade. Basically a brand new build on an old receiver. New barrel and wood. And reparkerized. CMP did a run of 1000 and sold out in around a week. They aren't planning on doing another run for a couple years.

Very nice looking rifle. I wonder how many there are of us who took a wait-and-see approach and got nothing.

Very nice rifle! The wide ear front sight is a late model version in keeping with the receiver date.

Is the stock set on that rifle one of the re-sized Boyd's stocks that CMP sells?

It looks gorgeous, by the way.

That's exactly what I would like to get. Sounds like a long wait ahead, though

Yes, I believe it's the same wood available through the CMP.

The sling that was included is a Turner Saddlery repro M1907 with the CMP stamp.

Why did you want a 5.8 mil?

icormba,

That's really nice wood. I need oil mine some more to get mine to look like that. Apparently, the CMP throws on 2 coats of BLO. But, I want that rich chocolaty look.

What did you use to finish yours?

I already have a WWII vintage 1.38M (Feb 1943) Service Grade in the safe with plenty of character.

I wanted the yang to the ying... a post-Korean war, high serial number, cleaned up example... and the CMP Special perfectly fit the bill.

Default This is mine, but it's no CMP Special...

I happen to like my rifle quite a bit... My late 6 mil SA might actually be a NM rifle, according to how the CMP sells them. If so, they let one get out for a song... It does have a LOT of NM parts on it.

The same, BLO... 1 coat every 12-24 hours for about a week... ~7-8 coats.
