Default Install rear sight on Rock Island 1911?

I purchased Trijicon night sights for my Rock Island Tactical 1911 with the intent of installing them myself. I got the front sight in no problem, but the rear dovetail is smaller than a standard Novak cut so either the sight or the slide needs to be filed or milled to fit.

Has anyone done this themselves? If so, please share how. Or, can anyone recommend a good gunsmith in the East Bay area? What is a reasonble cost for this install? Thanks.

You'll need to file down the sight to fit...not hard if you want to do it yourself.

Lots of info online...Google if you want to do it yourself.

I used a diamond file on my Dawson Precision rear to fit my GSG 1911. Remember to go slow, keep your file square and you should be fine.

All the info I can find on fitting aftermarket sights to the RIA 1911 say the dovetail is fit significantly smaller than most other dovetail sights. All the posts I see about it being done is they had to file off material, mill the dovetail larger, or sights miraculously dropped in.

Go slow, file off a little material at a time, and test fit. You can always take material off, but you can't add it back.
